New Windows Version for gamers..

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Why not have a version of windows without all the frilly idiot proof GUI CRAP that eats yer memory and stuff, just the absolute BARE essentials to get on the net and install whatever games or software ya want, no animation, none of that JUNK that eats ram all up.

I have Win ME and I use "Fremem" to free up 96mb of my 128 for programs other than windows (wont allow windows to use more than 32mb) and I get a few fps boots in AH.

If ya look at windows you will see that most of the stuff that eats yer memory up is utterly USELESS it falls under 2 catagories.

1: Eye candy
2: Idiot proofing

basically windows is designed for someone who has never used a computer, why cant there be a version for people who know the CD-rom IS NOT a cup holder?

Anyone else think this could be a good idea?

Bet ya could drop the mem usage to 16-24mb insted of...ALL OF IT.

Find a "Shell replacement" which suites your needs. http://shellcity.net/content10.htm

I've been using 98lite for several years now...with the Win98 shell converted back to 95 for stability reasons.

Does anyone know where the eye candy in Windows is? I can't seem to find it. In fact...I haven't been able to find it since 3.1 was released. Is there some top-secret key combination that you have to press to access it?

The "Xbox" is exactly what your looking for. Only downside is it's a console. Someone will find a way to move it's OS to a PC though.

I tried a few of those replacement shells ya listed but I never noticed much improvement over win98 (fps anyway) so i just run fremem before I run AH, that gives me 96mb to play with guarnteed.

Remember to use "msconfig";

hit start->run; Type msconfig and hit enter. De-Select proggies you don't want to start with windows.

"basically windows is designed for someone who has never used a computer..."

What staga said. Only those who dont know windows have it running like a pig.

But even with those tweaks, windows still eats way too much memory.

"why cant there be a version for people who know the CD-rom IS NOT a cup holder"

Its called OS/2 ... not popular anymore.   Damn good operating system, stable as a rock and awfully streamlined. A pain to install and configure though.
