Did the J-25's have them off the production line? or where they upgraded in the field ?

Not positive but I believe the J-25s had it in production.  J-25 and L-1 were basically the same bird as I understand it.  Lots of early 38Js were retrofitted with the upgrades although they didn't get the leading edge landing light.
