Oh, I haven't said to shut up, or anything.

As for HTC: They've mentioned this is a game. Hitech himself is quoted as saying something along the lines of "This isn't a war simulator, and don't tell me it is, cause it's not" -- it's in somebody's signature and I remember vaguely when he first typed it.

Hitech has said they have to draw the line somewhere. He's said they draw the line at landing off the runway vs on the runway. They draw the line by not allowing instant repairs but by allowing 30 second rearm and refueling times. He's said the many many compromises (including close airfield location, 2x fuel burn rate, and other "common" AH2 features) are all part of him drawing a line between "fun" and "tedious".

To me, broken instruments = "tedious".

I'm sorry, I should have specified HOW the gauges get damaged. One plane shoots at and hits other plane. Rounds hit cockpit and cause damage to instrument cluster, cockpit glass, the pilot himself is wounded. Oh my, I think I described a basic worst end of an aerial COMBAT situation.
Sounds "mindless" and "boring" to me.

Krusty...your self-important tone is comical

Relax

Its a combat sim.  If the game is as *you* interpet it, we'd have runway lights and control towers.

LePaul, if you'd read anything I typed, you'd know it's just the opposite. I'm AGAINST hyper realism.

Regrettably, I've read a lot of what you've said

And you're blasting anyone who disagrees with you.  You want less realism in a combat flight sim.  So what do you do when you fly in this game?  Go take scenic jaunts?  Screenshots?  Be real!

All I asked for was a wee bit of eye-candy, along the same line as the oil that smears your windscreen, or the blood spatter. That is all.

Just my 2 cents.......

Damaged instruments would usually include a pilot wound cause a 303/50cal round just smashed through the windshield. If the pilots wounded, I dont think hes really reading the instruments much. Just focusing on landing/ditching. Not really functional to add broken instruments.

However I have an alternative spin off of an idea. How about adding the aircarft systems to the damage list. Plane during combat was hit causing:

Severed Hydraulic line:
Flight controls effectiveness reduces after 5-10 movements or 30-40 secs. Gear/Flaps takes longer to operate (ONLY if the aircarft had alternate extension systems) or are lost completely.

Damaged pneumatc line:
All airdata instruments wind down to ZERO. Gyros after 5-10 secs slow down and topple hopelessly.

Damaged fuel quantity indication system:
Fuel gauge reads zero and E6B data lost.

You get the Idea. I think this kind of functional damage would be more "useful" in combat than just plain eye-candy cracked glass. Mind you I got nothing against the eye-candy just think it should be treated  as such and nothing more.

People actually use the instruments?

Here's my take on it...

Pull stick. If a horn sounds or buffet unsues, you're too slow.

Pull stick. If you start to black out, you're about fast enough.

Pull stick. If the wings fly off, you're too fast.

Look up, if green, you're upside down.

Look up, if half green, half blue, you're sideways.

I haven't found an arena field yet that requires an ILS approach.
