Problems with new Geforce 2 GTS 32mb
« on: May 02, 2001, 10:32:00 AM »
I got my framerate somewhat better when "upgraded" my tnt2 to Asus V7700 geforce 2 GTS. Otherwise all looks worse.

I must turn vsync off, otherwise there is blue flicker at bottom of the screen.

Horizon looks blocky with strange triangles.

Lighting effects look really rude(something like raster graphics)

Anyway all 3d effects look like toejam.

Ive tried Detonator v6.5 and 12 drivers, also brand new drivers from Asus all have exact same problems only framerates differ.

Tried different settings with no success, so please help.

Everything else works fine but AH.

Hell...this is unplayable. I just noticed ground targets disappearing from time to time.

Make sure in AH game, you do not have Z buffer turned on.  Then go here to download the utility called "GeForce Tweak".  That should take care of your problems.

Note: I use the toggle called "FAST SETTINGS" and AH runs great!

Also, what drivers are you using? I suggest getting at LEAST 6.50 or later drivers, I'm using the 7.5XX drivers...I've heard others with good success off the 10.XX drivers as well.

Thanks rip. I already downloaded "GeForce Tweak" I tried it a bit. Used fast setting but only got slightly better FPS.

I have brand new drivers from Asus.

Well problems are still there.

First, I HIGHLY recommend the Detonator drivers from that same link I gave you.  Then, follow the instructions in the readme for first, deleting your old drivers (gives you a wonderful looking desktop until you get the new drivers loaded...not!) and then installing the new ones.

Did you set the Mipmapping detail to "High quality" versus the default of "Best image" in the D3D settings of the video driver?

You need to do this.

You may also have some of the old TNT drivers still in your system as well.  Depending on how you removed the previous drivers, you may have a big mess on your hands.

Did you first remove all drivers prior to installing the new ones?  If you did, you end up after re-boot with a very ugle (8 color?) standard VGA driver.  At that point, you then install the new drivers.

Do you have any options selected selected under the VIDEO configuration in Aces High?

What Resolution is your desktop, and what color (32 or 16 bit) are you running on desktop?

Try to coincide the res in AH to that of your desktop.

Make sure you ONLY have the (16 or 32 bit) color and resolution checked in AH, do not check that other crap (Z-buffer, and something else..)

If you're seeing 'bands' of lighting and coloring, its because you're in 16-bit color mode.  CHange to 32 bit color if your system/monitor allows it.

[edit]
32bit win display prefs/32bit AH
Mipmap=Blend (middle)
Texel Alignment=7
Vsync=OFF

Heres what Illo emailed me:

Illo, you sure you have the Z-buffer UNChecked in the Aces High Video configuration screen?  Both those boxes to the left should be UN-checked.

If they are, then I am clueless as to why this is happening.

Wow, I run that exact same card.  I'm using Asus' 6.31 drivers.

Illo, first do this:  Update to Direct X 7a if you have 7 or 6.1 still.  (If you can't find 7a, 8a will probably be ok.)  Now, switch to "standard VGA" driver, reboot, and then reinstall the 6.31 drivers.

Now, on AH startup, click video and make sure "enable z-buffer" is unchecked.

Also, in the Direct X driver properties, change mip mapping from "best image" to "high quality."

Illo, what MB do you have?  It it's an Abit KT7 or kt7a, I'd try changing the AGP voltage to 3.3 rather than 3.56 volts.  This has solved many problems with GF2 cards on this MB in the past.
