Help! Crashing
« on: October 13, 2006, 02:08:22 PM »
Greetings all,

Whenever I start the program the resolution will change twice and then crash to the desktop, can't even get to the video adjustment screen.  I tried adjusting the fastwrite settings, going with minimum settings, and updating drivers to no avail.  Any ideas?

Help! Crashing
« Reply #1 on: October 14, 2006, 09:28:11 AM »
Im not sure youll be able to get Aces High to run on this specs. ITs on the lowest end of whats possible, also those mobile integrated graphics chips dont all work with the game.... also, you have very little RAM.

Try updating the drivers for your graphics chip. Make sure you can run the direct3D graphics tests, as AH uses those.

Then this is what you can try to do:

Find the game installment (default is C:\HTC\Aces High II\) and delete the "Settings" folder.
Restart the game. On first login screen, go to VIDEO SETTINGS. Set them to the lowest possible (800x600 screen resolution, 128 texture size). (im guessing the rest of the preload options are greyed out anyway, same for the "optimize terrain/object).

Then try to get into OFFLINE mode. The game will need to build cache. Dont minimize it or do anything else while it does.

Once youre in the game, go to OPTIONS > Graphic Detail (on the clipboard). Move all the detail sliders to the right (performance). Disable skins, effects etc.
If the "optimize terrain/object boxes were greyed out in VIDEO SETTINGS *do not check them here*!!!!!! Otherwise game will crash and you have to restart with deleting your settings folder.

Good luck.

Help! Crashing

flyemu,

I am using about the same machine as you are (my specs are below).  The main differences I see is the amount of memory, OS, and video card drivers.

I don't think your going to get the game to run with 256M, need at least 512M.  In AHII, my video settings are 1024x768 and set at 256.  Optimize objects and/terrain and hardware vertex are also checked, turn off other skins under the games options menu.  Update your video drivers to 6.14 and ensure antialising and arisotropic are set to application under the GeForce Performance and Quality tab.  Also look at using FSAutoStart to disable as many services as possible.

I get good game play as long as my connection is decent (cable) but my screen does freeze for a second sometimes when I am about to fire, I also use a TrackerIR with no other apparent lag.  However, made the recent mistake of playing on a friends dual core with full everything and left with my mouth drooling.
