Need Help - Friend Flies Underwater

My friend is having the following problem that I can't solve:

 

I installed AH again
to check it out, but when i try to fly offline its *very* weird. the
plane behaves very very oddly (like its under water, no joke), and there
is *no* terrain. just the field objects and some sheep, all floating in
mid air, no ground anywhere. this is installing 1.023 from scratch
(cleaned out previous install). any ideas?

I don't know about the "very very odd" thing but as for the ground, did he by some chance accidently set the view range to the minimum?  The reason I ask is that the first time I did this all of the terrain disappeared except for a very small patch right below the plane.

Probably a DirectX or video driver problem.  Make sure he has a current version of DirectX and the latest drivers for his card.
