Wrong tires, heavy pedal, and he's wheeling with the wrong people. The FJ (and the Xterra for that matter) are not in the same class as Jeeps and Land Cruisers. The vehicle cannot do the things that they can do. Trying to push it past its envelope just results in damage.

doesn't look like any in those vids are using mud tires.

BUT, that D90 is quite possibly the most capable 4WD vehicle ever to grace Planet Earth.   A shame the Airbag constraints ended US Imports in 1997.

FJ's need HEAVY MODIFICATION to go off road.    The lifts alone approach $2,000-$3,000 for accommodating 35" tires which seems to be the target lift these days.

The resale on the D90's are also probably greater than any other vehicle built in the last 25 years.

The D90 would not even come close to what I need.

I need an SUV. Big enough to carry the dog, hunting gear and a couple of boys.  I need a daily driver for grocery getting and commuting twice a week.  I need something I can drive in the snow, have the ability to pull a boat and get better mileage than an F250 460ci engine.

A D90 is overkill IMO.

Anyway, the FJ really attracts me, both price, and its exterior/interior looks.

I've already got 4 people interested in the BMW and will most likely sell it within the week.  Then I'll drive my truck for a few months while I shop around for a replacement vehicle. It may or may not be an FJ Cruiser, but I hope it will be.

I can say the same thing about Jeeps. I keep looking at them, but they can't come close to carrying the amount of stuff I put into the Nissan... unless I go with a Cherokee, and I'm not interested in those at all.
