Every time I update to a new patch,I get a white screen and a computerlockup.
so I have to download the patch from the HT-
downloadwebsite.

Sounds like a video card driver problem, have you tried updating the drivers?

You most likely already know this, but I'll throw it out there anyways...

I got a white screen when I tried switching to 32-bit color when my vid card wouldn't support it.  Deleted video.cfg, reset it to 16-bit and it worked fine.
