My library is very small right now. I'm perpetually broke (happens when you go to college for 10 years straight). I have plenty of OTHER books (text books on various topics) but on aircraft I only have about half a dozen.

I'll have to see if the library's got a copy of that.

As for the number: I couldn't find what it was, except on one webpage. I loathe to admit this but that webpage was wikipedia (hey, it came up in a google search!). I figured I couldn't leave it blank so I used the number wiki had. I half-guessed I'd have to correct it later.

Okay sorry I'm late. As promised, I exaggerated the weathering just to show what it looks like more pronounced. Keep in mind the external view isn't always the best place to see it. I should have just taken screenshots of the wings from inside the cockpit (I didn't think of that til now).

Here's the exaggerated version (also, I didn't notice until later I had put FSAA back on)

Okay I've reworked some of the weathering and I think I'm happy with it now. I've also changed the Werk Nr. but that was after I took this screenshot.

EDIT: D'OH! I left the opacity on the crosses at 100%. Whoops! Fixed, but not worth a new screenshot.

Is there a missing piece in the top rudder area.
Look at your last posted picture.

I have a question regarding the exhaust staining.
Warning: I have no idea about exhaust staining.

My question is, does it really look like that?

first answer: my foot was resting on the rudder pedals when I took the screenshot.

second answer: the exhaust stains on 109s vary, but in general were fairly light. The 109s were the elite, and kept well-maintained and cleaned. The aces of the 109s were even more elite. I have a photo of Marseille on the side of this very plane and the exhaust stains are faint, light. It's just a sign that they cleaned the plain regularly, I guess.

as krusty said, the Germans looked after there aircraft rather well.... and the top aces planes was cleaned and probably repainted more often too.... all for propaganda.

later in the war things got worse though.

I somehow doubt that Rommel was importing paint for 109Fs in lieu ammo and POL for his panzers.

Well they didn't really use that much paint. All they had to do was wash it down. Let me post an image for you.

He really was the elite of the elite. Photo ops could take place at any given moment. Note the exhaust stain? It stops before it gets to his right foot (the higher foot). There's a little bit of oil on the whit nose ring (but some of that is stencil markings). Otherwise the bird almost looks pristine.

I knew I'd probably take hell for skinning it this way, though. I gave it a little more, with a longer exhaust stain, a lot more oil streaks, and faded/discolored paint.
