go to the turret view. press Z to zoom. press [  and  ] to zoom in and out. remember to account for drop in round trajectory over distance.

I was a bit bummed when I found out that I was lousy at ground vehicles.  Then I realized that most of the expert ground vehicle soldiers are terrible at flying.  So, I made a decision; I want to fly, not stick around on the ground.  I'm not going to sacrifice a bit of my flying skill for some ground vehicle skill.  I spend it all on flying.

When you are zoomed in you can use the range scale in the view more accurately in the picture attached you can see the range of the tiger is set at 1400 yards (14). If the round falls short you might raise the barrel to a longer range. After shooting make sure you reset your aim as the first shot and and notice where the round fell on range scale. If it fell against the 2000 distance and short, you would know the target is even further so perhaps try 2600 and adjust each time until you find the correct range.
The range scale is 100's of yards so in theory no problem up to 3200 after that sheer good judgement!
