CHfighterstick/SB16 Reformated version

Ok, this is my "HELP!!!!! " post reformated after a couple of Valium pills.....


Just received a CH F16 Fighterstick and was setting it up as Standalone. It is connected in the Only gameport I have on an SB LIVE Value (Had previously a CH F16 Combatstick on it, works fine).I is also connected with the Keyboard cable in PS2.
I downloaded the CHwin98 drivers and installed it, found the Ch fighterstick in the Joystick Windoze menu....could calibrate it fine.

Downloaded Speedkeys, installed and lauched : No Joystick found
Downloaded the Windoze Joystick utility (forgot the name, but it basicaly is the CH Jcenter for Windows.)
It does find the Joystick, both in the Hardware mode (Gameport) & Windows.
Launched JCENTER from within windows : It finds the Joystick.
Tried to change the resources Vallue (default was 200-207) but it would not let me set it at 201-----instead it went to 210-02F

Went to full DOS Mode (Rebooted, pressed F8, tried DOS & DOS SAFE MODE)
JCENTER Does not find the Joystick
CHSETUP Does not find the Joystick
In DOS PROMPT, when I press the hatswitches, I do have Characters (Numbers appearing).

I tried waking up my Soundcard in DOS, by launching the DOS drivers : Nothing
Changed the Soundcard to another PCI Slot : nothing

I did the Joystick reset multiple times as stated in both Electronic & pper Doc : While PWR off, holding both upper red buttons (Not the trigger), booting, coutdown, then releasing both buttons....


My System is :
PII 400 (Not overclocked)
P2B S (SCSI enabled)
2 X 4.2 GB EIDE HDD (Quantum)
1X 5GB Mitsubishi SCSI UTLTRA2
SB LIVE Last drivers
Elsa Erasor X, last Nvidia Drivers
External Modem, Sportster 33.6 on COM1
Mouse is USB (Microsoft)
Keyb is PS2 UK

 I'm just about out of ideas for you Saintaw. Sorry.    I do recommend you email CH with this post. They're usually very good with answering quickl. You might also try cross posting this into the 'general' forumn as alot of folks don't read in here but they may have a solution idea for you.
 The core problem is Speedkeys does not see the Joystick but Windows and the CH joystick test apllication does. Don't waste time persuing the DOS avenue as that is even buggier.  And you definately have selected a 3 axis, 4 button joystick in your game controller windown in WIN98???????

 BTW, did you read this particular help file from CH?

 The most common cause of this error is a bad template in the Fighterstick. The easiest way to fix this is to perform a hard reset to clear up all templates in the Fighterstick.
 To perform a hard reset on your Fighterstick:

1.Turn off the computer
2.Press and hold down the two uppermost red buttons on your Fighterstick
3.Turn on the computer
4.Count three seconds, then release the buttons on the Fighterstick
5.Continue to load up windows
6.Once in windows, open up Notepad and press "up" on the topmost hat switch.
7.You should get a version number similar to v1.04. If you do, then you have successfully cleared out your template and can now go into Speedkeys and load up a template. Once you have done so you may calibrate your stick and start playing.
 If you do not get a version number, try the hard reset again but instead of holding down the three buttons for 3 seconds try 5,7, and 9.

 The Fighterstick also has problems working with a PS/2-AT adapter or a programmable keyboard. Use a standard, good quality keyboard. That should fix about 50% of all cases.
 If problems persist, you may have some other types of keyboard communication problems. First of all, make sure your BIOS is the most recent version (Contact your motherboard manufacturer for more information). Then, find the setting for your keyboard hertz rate (sometimes it may be called keyboard clock rate) and set it for 6hz. Some motherboards or BIOS do not have this option. If your particular system does not have this option, then you may not be able to get the Fighterstick to function properly
 Lastly, if you are running a 100mhz board or above you may have keyboard speed compatibilities, which would require a modification to your Fighterstick's circuit board. (The easiest way to know if your motherboard is running, or capable of running, at 100mhz is to look for an AGP bus on your motherboard). If you are running a 100mhz board, check your serial number. If  your serial number reads 12800 or above then you may not have to do the modification. If not, consult CH Products for more information."

 It REALLY is a good stick Saintaw. I hope this gets cleared up real fast for you.

I have already sent 2 Emails to CH & one Email & a Call to the Shop I bought it from.

What does this mean Exactly : try the hard reset again but instead of holding down the three buttons for 3 seconds try 5,7, and 9.
???

I tried with 2 Different Keyboards that I had, one is a Standard UK Keyboard, the other one, a Belgian one  

I will look up in the Bios for the keyboard frequency as soon as I go home...

I can't work today   I Need to get that fixed !

 It means to hold the buttons down for a longer time. More seconds.  When I've had to do it I've counted to ten slowly.

Could it be what's called the "Typematic Rate (characters/Second)" ??? I can set that one to 6 as a minimum... Or the Typematic Delay (Miliseconds ?)

I must be tired   6Hz is indeed 6 cycles a Second...so, it fits  ...Lucky my boss didn't see that post

Dunno if this will help you guys, but isnt Speedkeys for the CH Pro Throttle?  I think the Fighterstick is only programmable when its hooked up to the Pro Throttle (yes this is a guess but I thought I heard this before). Yes it does look for a joystick as its booting up and I have the following system:

CH Pro Throttle
Wingman Extreme Joystick

You sure the problem isnt with the fact that you are hooking the CH Fighterstick striaght into the computer?

Actually SpeedKeys is for the Pro Throttle or the F16 Fighterstick. It's the only stick CH makes that is programmable with it.

The CH F16 Fighterstick can be Programable as a Stand alone stick, without using the Pro Throttle. At least that's what it saiys on the box , and what the salesman told me

Saintaw when does speed keys say there is no joystick found, is on launch or in the window for the joystick after pushing the button.

You might just need to select it if this is the case.

i use the f16 Fighter stick as well. talked to ch tech support several times(even sent the throttle and joystick in for the updates) also talked to HITECH about the problems as well.
the only solution i could come up with after
trying everything was to use the CH combatstick driver the rev2 one.
this allows me to program the hat switch.
the views still stick every now and them
but not near as bad as using the macro command to set them up.
another thing that helped me as well was to
disable the CD-RW that i have.
things are better but still aren't up to par.

Set the keyboard to 6mhz with 250 ms secs : Nothing
I don't get the Version 1.4 whe I go in Notepad, just Numbers...

Had a Hinch, and tried my good olde working CH Combatstick with the DOS JCENTER : does not find it even if the Joy works FINE in Windoze....

BUT !!!!
I found THIS :

My Serial Nr reads : 05272

And, I am running a 100Mhz Board......Hope !

My english is very poor and probably that is not helpfull, but i try:

Speedkeys does not recognize your stick?
I have the same problem in the past and the only thing that worked was a complete reinstallation of the speedkeys program.

All the time (5 time in one year) speedkeys do not recognize stick i need to reinstall the program and all ok.

Good point Visconti!

If that fails Saintaw I have the instructions at home on what to do to the stick from CH.
But you may want to get the instructions from them to ensure your warranty does not become void.
 If I recall what needs to be done is you clip a capacitor off the pc board inside the base. It's an easy modification.
