Republican Candidates for 2008?
« on: January 22, 2007, 08:10:29 AM »
The thread about Hillary and Obama has caused me to wonder about their possible opponents in that election.

Who has tossed their hat into the ring so far?  Who would be the most formidable nominee for the Republicans?

Arkansas' former governor, Mike Huckabee, has formed an exploratory committee and is attempting to raise funds for a run.  Do NOT vote for this man.  He is a closet socialist....a sheep in wolf's clothing.  He loves using the power of the government and he never met a regulation that he didn't like.

In addition, ethical questions are going to cause him some problems.  He has a reputation for taking personal gifts from those he has granted favors.  When he left office a couple of weeks ago he depleted the emergency fund of the governor's office, set at $500,000 a year, to crush the hard drives on 83 government computers, thus destroying information which the public has a right to see under the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act.

Huckabee also covered for a croney on the Pardon and Paroles Board in the same fashion, refusing to release a file of complaints about the man's conduct, when said file was also covered by the Freedom of Information Act.  The Huckster refused to release it even when a newspaper sued, and won, to have the paper released to the public domain.

I personally know the man that Huckabee was covering for.  I've done business with him...and he's as crooked as a barrel of snakes.  I can't prove it, but the only reason I can think of for Huckabee to have bent over backwards to defend the man was because the little sleazebag had something on him.

The paper was not released until two days after Huck left office....and it was released by the incoming governor Mike Bebee.

Richard Nixon would be proud.

Surely there are better candidates out there than this caricature of a Baptist/socialist/money-grubbing shyster.

Who would make the best candidate?

Regards, Shuckins

Well since I'm retiring from the military and don't have anything lined up just yet, maybe I'll run.

Want to know my stance on issues, just ask.

not to hijack this thread, but why include "Baptist" in the tag line when you don't refer to it anywhere else in your write-up/comment?

I don't think he was using "Baptist" in a bad way. I think he was implying that Huckabee try's to come off as a good southern Baptist Christian, but is really just a POS giving real Christains a bad name, hence the "caricature" part.

That was what I said in 2004.  :(  I remember standing in the voting booth and wanting to write in "None of the above".

Surely it's got to be better than that.  I have high hopes for McCain.

Ron Paul.  Might actually get me to vote R again...  McCain's worthless.  He's shown himself to be as spineless and wishy-washy as the rest of his peers.

forHIM,

Huckabee is an ex-Southern Baptist minister.  I'm a Southern Baptist...but Huckabee has proven to be a big disappointment.  No slur against Baptists themselves was intended.

While I've voted for him twice in the past it will not happen again.

there ws talk a while back about Tommy Thompson at least locally...

he was a GREAT governor, and was a possible VP candidate in the past.

he doesn't really have the backing, or national attention needed though IMHO.

couple of notables of his career:
Quote

Thompson's most noted initiatives during his nearly 14 years as governor of Wisconsin were his Wisconsin Works welfare reform and school choice programs. In 1990, Thompson enacted the nation's first parental school-choice program, allowing low-income Milwaukee families to send children to the private or public school of their choice.

though I know some of those are really touchy subjects in here... AHEM Skuzzy lol

I hear the clarion call!

Vote Toad in '08!

New slogan:

How much worse could he be?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!
