It doesn't look like the ENTIRE garage is carpeted so you're forgiven :lol

How does your buddy like that '98 Passport Rip? That's the exact same year model I just bought for the wife to use as her back-up rural mail delivery vehicle.

You have proved my point.   A 3800 lb Jeep TJ on 35's and a 4.0L straight Six pulled out a vehicle two and half times it's weight, while in axle deep mud.   Yer 14 dude, relax.   One day, it will al make sense.

G'night.

Ripsnort (Who is shocked that no ones made a snide comment about the carpet in my garage in the above pics yet......YET!!!! ;) )

Alot of the guys in my club have em.   There are two kinds of MileMarkers.   For the longest time their "claim to fame" were the Hydraulic Winches that attach to your power steering pump.

This will be all that you need Bro:

MileMarker Si9500

Noone in the club has this winch as for a Jeep it would be overkill.  Your vehicle when modified can use this to it's potential.   Internal Solenoid is a plus too.

IMO, Warn's are not worth the money they charge.   I have a worm driven Ramsey on mine, it'll pull consistantly regardless of the load placed on it.

Also Rip, if you ARE going to get a winch.   Grab an Optima Yellow Top battery, or TWO (if they make an after market tray for a 2nd one).   It'll allow you two better utilize your winch, lighting, etc.

2nd battery with switch will be first, since this thing has a 120 outlet in the back...I can use it for keeping a 2nd small fridge running on camping trips. ;)

Thanks for the post on the Milesmarker.  Have you any information about Rand? are they cheapies? Reliable?

I had a Warn winch on my 1976 scout, it did the job..

He has the Accord, like the one below but dark metallic green (which is always a challenge with detailing.)  He loves it. 80,000 miles and nary a problem. Typical japanese reliability.

Which one? The F250 HD or the new FJ?
Doesn't matter, I can answer your question: 60 mph when I'm driving. ;)

It has an inverter?

Inverters are cool, but they will suck a battery dry in pretty short order. We always recommend using 2 deep cycle 6v batteries instead of a 12v with an inverter. They will last longer.

I have to say, I think the original Hummer (the only Hummer imo) is getting a bad rap. A marine corps Hummer with a snorkel kit isn't going to be stopped by axle deep mud. The driver might get stopped but not the vehicle. And I'll put my old 1986 Dodge Power Ram up against any 4x4 on the market. As long as my old dog will fit & not be drowned out by water it will go slop or no slop, hill or no hill :aok

(can you tell I love my old Dodge?):D

Edit: On a side note, does anybody know how many new production four wheel drives are true 4x4 & not 4x2?

Really? I'd never heard that recommendation 2X6v) before. Might be worth researching.  FWIW, The inverter shuts off when the battery reachs 10 amps so that you can't completely drain the battery.

I was going to go with an Optima Deep cycle not unlike this set up pictured below. This fellow has the TRD CAI as well, which only leaves enough room for the Optima as it appears in this picture.

iirc, this thing is a truncated 4WD 4Runner platform. At least that's how it was originally designed. A small SUV to compete with the Element and draw niche ownership by marketing towards a "younger people, outdoors-ish" demographic.

Should be a 5VZFE under the hood unless they went to the 4.0 V6... which is a ... 1GRFE according to my fast-moving parts books. Never saw any regular warranty claims or damages to that engine that I can remember (spent 3 years in a parts department). Only thing funny about it was using a different style oil filter.

It's a good trial-sized SUV. I like it. I'm biased though. I love my 4Runner, and anything on a Toyota PreRunner platform is usually rock solid.

Only thing I don't like, which they do to all production cars... is they completely screwed up the interior. The concept interior was much nicer looking. Also can't tell from the pic.. but it looks like they replaced the solid rubber floor with carpet. Kinda ruins the point of it imho. Get it dirty, clean it with a hose, drive home.

I never saw the concept interior, but I love the interior of it!  The interior is the "hose down" style, with water-proof cloth seats.  You have a choice of rubber "mud" matts or carpetted matts. I chose mud matts since I will be doing some hunting and offroad.  This is my first Toy, but I've heard nothing about good about their reliability.

Here's a very poor pic of the interior that I took (using a wide angle lens, thus the curvature to the dash).
