Prince.

Last night he looked like Aunt Jemima on crack with that syrup cloth on his head.

How do you go from the Rolling Stones to Prince in just one year? That's probably why last years Super Bowl was the 2nd most viewed Super bowl in SB history.

The commercials were not as funny as last year either, IMO.

Anyone into Prince probably really enjoyed the halftime show, although I thought the shadow thing where his guitar looked like a massive stylized double noodle was a bit unnecessary for a prime-time show.  Yea it totally fits his entertainment personality, but sheesh, there's kids watching.  Even some of the older military dudes I was watching with went "ewww" when they showed that.

I'd rather see Janet Jackson's boobies than a shadow of Prince with a 2 ft long phallus anyday
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

I worked and missed it, but I don't watch them anyway. U2 halftime show during SB XXXVI I watched, even have it on DVD and watch it from time to time.

Even though 9/11 was a great tragedy, in the aftermath was a strong sense of unity and patriotism. That halftime show captured all of that, it was something the whole family could watch. The end where the victims of TWC rose into the sky(as if to heaven) and Bono revealed the American flag in the lining of his jacket brought a strong sense of pride, conviction in our values, and patriotism.

It wasn't about selling sex, grabbing crotches, showing boobs, just about being a proud American and American values.

Even the SB itself, as the underdog Patriots would be the first team to forgo individual introductions for the starters and come onto the field as a team(something done on a regular basis now). Then rising up and playing the game of their lives to win a game no one thought they had a chance to on a walk off field goal(as time expired).

If you looked closely, he was not playing, it was pre-recorded (according to more knowledgeable blogs out there that analysed the whole thing). So yeah, he does have skillz, but pre-recorded skillz in a studio ("damn, screwed up, lets do a re-take...1,2, 3....")

I caught only the last part, but have to give a lot of credit to putting on a show that elaborate, complete with massive electronics and fireworks, in the rain.  Talk about The Show Must Go On!

Quite a spectacle.  However, the Thunderbirds flyover in the dark seemed wasted, but hopefully it was more impressive at the stadium than on TV.

I beg to differ rip..

if it was prerecorded, I believe with the rain they wouldn't have switched out guitars unless he was actually using them. They would've used an old beater guitar that if it got damaged, it wouldn't matter.

check out the prince superbowl press conference / concert on youtube. :)

The first time I heard Purple Rain, some stripper was dancing to it in the Downs Lounge. I like Princes music because of the time of my life it reminds me of. I was partying heavy then. It was before the time when you start telling yourself "maybe I should slow up a little"  and you get a little responsible. Just party like no tomorrow, still feeling immortal. Ohhh and Apollonia. She was a good reason to like Prince :)

you could tell he was playing, if you play guitar and were watching.

he sure ****** up a few times, and made it sound like crud.

also got to question his song choice in that "montage"   :huh still saying WTF on some of those.

I know with all his new "religion" and being a Mormon or whatever (Jehovah's witness? ) he won't do certain songs from his past like cream and stuff, but I think there were some other song choices he could have made

I believe he was playing.  But leading men in bands often have a backup guitarist to play the lead guitar role so that they can dance around and do what they want.
