I know it'll never happen but I'd love to see AC/DC do a halftime show.  I last saw them in Sept. 2000 and was blown away by the amount of sheer energy they still have, especially Angus.

Angus has always impressed me.  Not a technically great guitarist, but man that guy can write some serious riffs.

To me Prince is nothing more than a mediocre guitarist. He's got a few relatively simple yet flashy riffs that sound impressive to someone that doesn't play. He strings them together then rinses and repeats as neccesary. I thought the guy playing the strat in "while my guitar" was a much more talented player. Prince's approach: Hmm..a tribute to George Harrison...how can I make this all about me? Cue the simple flashy riffs that don't quite fit and and work that mojo baby! Just what George was all about.

Not to say that he sucks (poor choice of words perhaps :D) but he's not all that either. I noticed he played a couple bars of "All Along the Watchtower" during the half time show. He made a wise choice to not play more. He wouldn't come off looking too good comparing himself to Jimi. Now that guy could play.

What about Dylan? You know, the guy that wrote the song. :)

Yes I'm fully aware that Dylan wrote Watchtower and Like a Rolling Stone both of which Jimi covered. He was a big Dylan fan. But...who do you think of first when someone mentions those? How about Hey Joe? Wild Thing? Johnny B. Goode? I associate them with Jimi more than their authors. If you pick up a Strat and play Watchtower I think a lot of folks are going to immediately draw comparisons to Hendrix.

Or are you asking my opinion of Dylan's guitar playing?  Slightly better than his singing. Great songwriter though.

I forgot to mention that when Prince was doing his shadow thing how I thought he was trying to look like the devil with a tail and horns holding his banana.

Looks like I wasn't the only one.

Thank you Sluggish for this little gift, I had never seen it and as a Harrison fan since his debut I found this performance, (by all the musicians involved) to be a thrilling and fantastic tribute to the man.

Probably because a significant number of males suffer from an acute homophobia,  due in part to a lack of confidence in their own sexual prowess, not being secure in their own heterosexuality, or resulting from some experience in their past, with a family pet, or farm animal (which still glares at them accusingly when they come into view), which they've never been able to come to grips with.

It's very sad really.  You guys need help.

I, fortunately, am not afflicted by such.  I grew up in the country with about a dozen farm girls as neighbors (...good times....fun times.....).  And I'm much too big a fan of:

translation>>> hey, hey , look at me, i grew up with a bunch of farm girls so i CAN'T be gay, but all you guys are homophobes.<<

actually the word "homophobia" is a misnomer, phobia means fear, they don't fear gays , they just think a man having sex with another man is disgusting.

It's the strong overly defensive, knee-jerk, reaction or puffed up displays they put on that leads me to believe it is a "phobia".    ie: "A phobia (from the Greek φόβος "fear"), a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject."
It is hi-ar-i-ous to watch at times.  Very entertaining.

Then there is the near habit or tagging anything they don't like or disprove of as "gay".    That is a little disturbing, but I'm not a qualified psychologist to analysis this aspect.

As to the break from the original thread and reference to Prince:

Quote
Personal Life.   Prince became one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 2001 reportedly to satisfy his mother's dying wish.[28] He has since worked some religious themes into his music. Prince married Mayte Garcia, on Valentine's Day, 1996. They had one son, rumored to have been named Gregory. He was born with Pfeiffer syndrome, a rare skull disease and died shortly after birth. Their marriage was annuled in 1998. He and his current wife, Manuela Testolini Nelson, (whom he married in 2001) filed for divorce in May 2006.

I may be wrong here, but generally gay men don't repeatedly marry women do they?  I could be wrong, I don't know.

Am I a Prince fan, or a fan of the music he plays?  Not really on either account, but I can respect the talent and abilities of the performer.  I acknowledge that some of the songs from some of my favorite artists may have been written by the man.  The ability to play nearly any instrument he picks up.  At least a thousand songs written to have made the charts in Pop, Rock, Country, among other genres?

Or it could siomply be because they find the very thought of what gays do to and/or each other utterly disgusting

Not a thing wrong with being homophobic.
Not a thing wrong with liking or disliking a person, or group for any reason whatsoever so long as you do not act out against said persons.

This whole thing about homophobia or homophobia  being somehow a bad thing is nothing more then an attempt at thought control.
Its PC BS pure and simple.

As a human being you have the natural right to like or dislike anyone you choose for whatever reason you choose.

what you dont have the right to do is take active harmful action against those you do not like.

In short. You have to tolerate them.
but you dont have to like them
