Star Trek TOS makeover
« on: February 10, 2007, 05:03:06 PM »
I just watched ST:TOS episode called the "Doomsday Machine"

I have seen this episode about 12 times since 1967 and knew it well.

What have they done as far as CGI?  It looked incredible!  New battle scenes using up to date technology.

I had no idea they re-vamped the old series.  It looked damn good.

I researched my own question.  It seems there is a group that is remastering the series.

Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Go to trekmovie.com to see more, they put up an fx reel for each episode.

The work being done is amazing, especially the effort they've put into keeping the changes from interfering with the original material.

Good stuff, I'm looking forward to seeing Doomsday Machine, a friend and I have been watching this closely the last week.  There's a bit of a showdown between the CBS production and a fan-made production, we'll see how it turns out.

Yep...that's the one.

Anybody know if they have remastered the episode "Balance of Terror?"

Caught it today.
Was always one of my favorite episodes.

Not bad. Not bad at all.
I was kinda expecting more done with the interior shots as well though.

Hell with todays technology they could have placed them in an entirely different looking ship if they wanted to
so I was kinda surprised more liberties werent taken with the interiors of the ships as well

Texasmom, quick question: Have you watched any of these? Or are you shooting from the hip and just assuming you won't like it?  They didn't mess with them the way Lucas did with Star Wars.  There aren't any thundering herds of Tribbles on the horizon or anything.

I agree - I saw the new CGI, not knowing it was, and was like, 'Holy ****!' That looks to good for the 60's :)

But it is well done. Isn't some of the audio and foley redone as well?

I haven't seen any of the overhauled shows; but I won't assume that I won't like them before I see them.  So I'm not counting them out ~ just saying how enjoyable the old ones are.:)

If it was Doomsday Machine, then I'm with you for sure.

I was less terrified by The Trouble with Tribbles.
