I think this was my all-time favorite episode. William Windom was terrific as Matt Decker, the suicidal commander whose only solution to his combat failure was to repeat essentially the same tactics that lost his own ship with somebody else's starship.
I caught part of the episode though, and was disappointed at how much of the confrontation between Spock and Decker was cut out to make room for commercials.
Thanks for posting about it; I would've missed it entirely otherwise.
