Ok, I'm a noob and need a little help. I love the mustang and the corsair, but I want to learn the mustang first. These are my problems, when trying to engage, I always end up over shooting the target. Not being able to slow quick enough. The second is prblem is sometimes a I feel that I'm just going to slow and turning to wide, I feel like I'm flying in mud. Please help. Also one last thing, what is "Trim" and or combat trim?
Thanks.

for the flying in mud and wide circle thing, check that stall limiter is not on. clipboard-preferences-flight. for the rest try spending time in the TA with a trainer, we have some of the best.

welcome to Aces High.

Great article on AH trim here, must read for anyone new to AH.

Next, if your having problems overshooting planes, a couple of tips may help.

A: Do not dive directly at your intended target, pick a likely target, dive in Behind & below them. This puts you in their blind spot, and you are much harder to track. When you do close enough, attack from below, this helps slow your speed as you convert speed to alt in closing. Also if you do overshoot, since your already going up, your not near as likely to end up in front of his guns.

If you miss or misjudge closer speed, go UP, roll inverted and dive back in again.
Once again diving in behind him, closing range, then zooming UP from below him to attack.

as for the overshoots, you need to either 'saddle up' or overshoot with plenty of speed and 'out-of-plane' - anything in between could put you in a dangerous situation.
To saddle up, chop throttle dump flaps and rudder skid like mad, or perform a barrel roll behind your opponent to stay in his rear hemisphere. Then set throttle accordingly so you maintain distance. This can be very risky if you still overshoot once you scrubbed all your smash off - so do it properly or not at all.
Or, come in with plenty of smash take a hit-and-run pass at em as per ghost mentioned.
Death welcomes those who do something in between...

for the wide turn thing, try using flaps. pull it down 2x times or 20 degrees. help u turn better. and if you don't know how to go inverted and pull back down like ghosth said, when u dive, turn off ur engines. when u think it's the right time to turn it on, do it. and aim from behind and below. and becareful of stalkers from up above and behind you. ok?b:aok

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

As mentioned earlier, try saddling up ( in - plane ) with your opponent, if you are coming in with alt and are carrying a bit of speed you may want to use  lag pursuit as you are turning in behind your opponent. As Ghosth mentioned sometimes best to turn  in / under behind them and come up in their blind spot. I would recommend not to cut engines ever, throttling back maybe, but do not kill the engine.  Also, in the P51 no more than 1 notch of flaps, and that is if you are below 275/250 IAS....if you are able to get 2 notches down, then you are to slow entering the fight to start with and will not have the acceleration one needs to escape an overshoot if you do overshoot.......

If you see your opponent start to do a break turn( hard turn ) you should either go up or break in the opposite direction and extend. Preferablly extend in a gradual climb also......

Also, fly the P51 series in the TA or offline or DA.push it to its limits. learn what it can do slow and fast......learn what it can do at high speed , practice riding the tunnel, practice quick instantaneous turns, practice sustained turns at different speeds, practice learning to fly without looking forward all the time ( using up view/back up view/forward up view while flying - learn to use your lift vector & rolling to acquire target and keep eye on target at all cost), .learn at what speeds are best for certian notches of flaps deployed.......

example ( do not use these it is a mere example only )
220/190 IAS  use 1 notch
170/150 IAS use 2 notches
140/130 use 3 notches
120/100 use 4 notches........

note I really do not recommend getting slower than 190/ or at worst 170 in the P51D, although it can be flown even at sub 100 speeds in a knock down drag out knife fight.......:D

go to the trainers website and fill out a Training Request form

hope this helps    ~Good Luck~
