Will This Computer Run AH
« on: March 05, 2007, 06:07:27 PM »
Hello, I downloaded the AHII 2 week trial the other day because I am an unpatient guy lol, and really wanted to see what it was like(even though I don't have a joystick that runs on my o/s but w/e thats beside the point).

Anyway, I got it working up until I was in the hanger about to take off, where my screen would go absolutly black with the little underscore cursor thing blinking.  The only way to recover from it would be to restart my pc, and then it would say "your pc recovered from a serious failure blah blah..."

So, I though I would ask you guys if my pc can handle this game in the first place, so...

AMD Athlon XP 3200+ processor
512 MB ram
200 GB HD
Integrated graphics w/ 64 MB shared video mem.

its a HP pavilion a645c running Windows XP 2000 home.

If you need to know more let me know.  Thanks.

Oh and can this game run on Vista.  I know it doesn't say anthing about it, but i was just wondering/

I have this computer which is about 3y old, and my parents just got a new comp for the rest of the fam, and they are thinking of upgrading it to Vista(its Vista ready or w/e), so if AH can't run here I want to know if I can go to that comp.

Thanks so much to everybody.

Well the AMD Athlon 3200 is what I'm running, no problems there, same with the 512 of mem, and HD is plenty big.

Problem is that 64 mb integrated graphics card you have.
Unlike your onboard video & sound I'm running an
ATI All in wonder 256mb radeon 9600.
BIG difference in video and how it runs the game. BTW I'm getting 55 - 75 fps.

Everything on the motherboard = cheap for them to build.
Means if any part fails you have to buy a new motherboard = more $$$
Means you can't upgrade, have to buy new or build from scratch= more $$$$

Ohh and I wouldn't even consider vista.
Its a dog, but don't take my word for it.

Ok, so you think that if I get a good graphics card it *should* hopefully solve my problems lol?  Thanks for the help so far.

EDIT so do you think its this crappy factory video card which is causeing my computer to *crash* in the way i described?

Thanks

Your intergrated video is your problem.  U need to check inside your computer and see if U can upgrade the video on it.  What u have to look for is a AGP slot or PCI-E slot.  More then likely u have a AGP slot or nothing at all.  AGP slots are generally dark brown in color and closest to the CPU.  the White slots are PCI (not PCI express).  If u have a AGP slot u in luck and can get a decent video card to run AH.  If not, your only choice is to build a new system or buy a new one with those available slots or with a good video card alrdy installed.

AKDogg, don't forget they *do* make PCI graphics cards. They're not the best, but they would probably run AH on default graphics settings (they'd choke and die if you maxed them out I bet).

true but they are getting hard to find anymore and I wouldn't waste my money on them.  U are better off investing building your own or purchacing a new computer with upgradeability.

On the whole I agree, but for him that would mean an entirely new $1500+ machine. If he can get ahold of a $50 PCI graphics card in the meantime.... maybe it's worth it while saving up?

i would not mean 1500 dollars.  All he have to do is get a new MB and vid and reuse everything else.  U can get new mb for 80-150 for that processor and new video card for 150-300.

I had a blast playing AH on an AMD XP2200 system, 768MB ram, and a 128MB Nvidia 5200 AGP card...  still got 20-30FPS on somewhat decent video settings.

Now I have a E6300 Core2Duo, 2GB DDR2 ram, and a 256MB Nvidia 6200 AGP card.. 50-60 FPS on much higher video settings.

Get yourself an AGP card (I think I paid $30 for my 6200 card) and maybe a bit more ram and your system will be plenty capable, just don't expect to turn the detail all the way up.

Enjoy!
