Sounds like you press the [ key while in zoom and backed it all the way out. Try going to zoom and pressing the ] key and see if that doesn't make it work. Sometime I will do this by mistake and don't know I am already in zooom but backed out and I have to use the ] key after pressing the zoom and when it doesn't move I press zoom again and then the ] key and it zooms again.
