Still having dual core problems amd / intel

I am presently running a perfectly "happy" PC with an AMD64 3500+ single core with 1 Gb RAM. Windows XP Home at least SP2  as that was the  OS when first installed before various auto updates by Windows

Somethime this weekend I will be putting in more memory to take it to 2GB using all four slots with 512Mb  in each - All memory the same spec. and maker.

I will also be swapping the CPU to an AMD64X2 4200 dual core processor. But only after installing and checking out the system with the new memory first!

Is there any sequence I ought to follow to do this either for feedback to the forum or just to get it right?

I planned to make sure I have downloaded the latest fix from Microsoft, but not sure if this should be installed before or after replacing the CPU!

Oh and I will be checking that my current BIOS supports the CPU before installing it just in case I need to update this first. I alreeady know the M/B itself is OK  ASUS A8N-SLI Premium ACPI BIOS 1011-005, 18/01/2006
