Hello...I do believe this is my first post in years...:)...im having a problem understanding this new system...the room size changes to a smaller size..ex: blue room   170/120...i cant get in to fly with my squad..which is very frustrating. As most of you know the appeal of aces is not only in the game but in the friendship of our squadies.I noticed the early and mid arenas are always at a capacity of 350...never changes ..yet those rooms have a minority of the ma population.I tried to email hitech to find out why this is...with no reply...so i thought id make this post for some feed back.I wish the late arena was one room again....keep the early and mid...but make the orange and blue rooms into one room.Is it because of the lag it creates or is it because hitech is trying to force even numbers in both rooms (if so on the latter...why???)...any feedback that would help me understand why they are forcing us into a room we dont want to go into would be appreciated...thanks
    CYa in the skies..hopefully on ur 6 :)  <> Hapstur1

Hap posting here will only generate some INteresting replies.

Try the search button for arena split.  There have been several threads arguing the toss.

I would love to just see some different maps but thats a whole new issue ;)

you can do a search for arena splits and get a ton of info. the short version....

MA was split due to hording and other behavior that HTC felt desroying the "community" of the game. The EW and MW arenas have no population problems so the caps are set at 350 and never change.

The LW arenas when they were first split would fill one arena to cap (350) them have 50 of so in the other LW arena. To make both arenas stay more everly populated HTC set up a "dynamic" cap system. As the population closes in on the cap in one arena, the other LW arenas cap increases automatically. With this system the caps move up more evenly making both arenas playable. Sometimes you'll see 150 in an arena with a cap of 120. This happens when the arena populations drop. Some time there are big fluctuations due to everyone getting booted due to a map reset.

See that you havent been to the boards much in the last 6 months or so -- cause this topic has been hammered over and over since the switch.

To make a long story short, there are lots who don't (or at least didnt) like the changes, but the overall verdict has been postive. The proof is in the pudding, as they say, and the number of players has overall skyrocketed since smaller arenas were put in.

HT's target was to have arenas of around 300 players or so. The early war arenas don't overfill, so there aren't any controls. The late war arenas' caps are set based on how full the OTHER late war arena is at the moment. Once an arena approaches being full, its partner gets more slots; and once that one fills up, the slots increase on the first one. If one is much bigger than the other, the big one's cap drops down until things even out again.

After a reset, the total number of players starts at zero -- so the partner arena will show a really low cap for a few minutes until the reset arena fills up again.

In practice, jsut go to the other LW arena and there will be no problems. You can coordinate with squaddies using the "lobby" and sending .p playername messages.

Hapstur -- can see that you're not a BBS regular, because you're far too reasonable and fairminded!

Late War Arena Split
The original problem with hords and the uneven game plan still exists but to a lesser extent.  That's not based on anything but observation.  I don't think the split in the late war arena  has had anything to do with the reduction.  I think the basic change in the game play rules has had a major impact for the better on game play.

That little change in the reset rules, 90% of your own original bases and 40 % of each of the other sides original bases, coupled with the fact that no side can lose all it’s bases, has had the most impact.  Add to that the latest changes in the Vehicle base layout and the return of the revetments at bases, thank you very much. The hardening of the towns with AAA , and the increase in AAA at an airfield, has made game play much more enjoyable.

Now if they would just return the puffy ACK to the airfield and town defense  it would add just another layer of protection for airfields and towns.

With the changes that have been made to the rules and the basic game play, I think HiTech should consider a return to a single late war arena.   Unless there is a technical reason that the late war arena servers need to limit the numbers in any one arena
