Before my final in economics I calculated that I needed 103% on the final to get and A in the class, but I only needed something like 65% to maintain my B.  So, I studied just enough to pass.  I ended up with an A for my overall grade.  I talked to the professor to figure out how he figured the grade; he gave me 105% on the final because I set the curve and most everyone else bombed it.  Sometimes not stressing out over a test is the way to go; I only pull off a B+ or A- when I tried.

This reminds me of an old joke:

What do you call the guy who graduates at the bottom of his class in med school?

Oh, it occurs to me... this thing is curved, so I just need 5 people to be dumber than me. I think I can swing that.

When your boss puts his bellybutton on the line for strangers he can talk. I have never seen a lawyer out in the street putting their lives on the line for the public.

FWIW the post I made was tongue in cheek. You chose to take it seriously, your problem not mine.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

I got the impression that his post was tongue in cheek too.  (And pretty funny).

Plenty of lawyers put their bellybutton on the line for the public, and are seen as scum for doing it...  Just wait until someone has to defend Osama.  That'll be as great a public service as anything any cop ever did.

At least if we truly value what we claim to.
