And after getting pelted with rocks they should have done what ???

Here we go again its all the LAPD's fault..

I would love to see the whole video as Im sure there were warnings to disperse that were not shown (nor obviously heeded) , but that would not make for good headlines or great creative sensational journalism.

It is much better to paint the picture of over aggressive police than an unruly mob who failed to follow lawful orders of police precipitating a police response..

Be sure to listen to the inflamatory statements by NBC:

It MAY have started by police being pelted by "OUTSIDERS IN THE CROWD" it ended however with injuries and police firing weapons at the crowd.

This seems to indicate that the "Marchers" were not involved but it was people not involved with the protests and that police may have just decided to break up the crowd.. It further seems to indicate that the crowd was injured only.. Not till later do you hear that the number of police injured (around a dozen)was higher than the number of the peaceful protestors (10).

Then to top it off they put on a "anchorman" who responds to the question " was this just clearly a case of excessive force??".. " It was excessive force they basically hit Women children and Journalists" > I saw one female get pushed by police, one man get hit with a baton, a man who had been hit with less lethal device (apparently) but must have missed the hitting of the women children and journalists...

They Quote Police Chief William Gratton as saying some of his officers action were inappropriate.. They then play a clip of what he says and he says nothing of the sort.. He merely says he "regrets that this department its members and the community were invloved in such a troubling event"..

LMAO FINE JOB NBC WTG........TRY REPORTING THE FACTS IF YOU HAVE ANY AND NOT MAKING THE STORY TO FIT YOUR OWN OPINIONS AND PERCEPTIONS...

I never understood how an illegal could protest anything without fear of being arrested and deport.
I understand "protests" this year were way less than half what they were last year. Understandabe considering that political card was played for the dems then for the nov 06 elections and as usual, their cause there was then forgetten once its agenda was complete.

If the LA Sheriffs dept did the exact same thing, there would be no media drama.. not only do they get more respect, they're not run by the incompetent fools at LA City hall and their ridiculous wackjob supporters. Everyone hears about "LAPD" , yet the Sheriffs dept, LASD, is bigger and has a lot more policing responsibility and almot never get roasted in the press. A big reason why is the LA County supervisors dont entertain the complaints of LA city loons as often.

Those poor dudes at LAPD cant do anything without being mediascrewed... then again they have lowered their standards to the point many of the people who work there are, uh, less than competent and would have been laughed at for applying 10 years ago.

LAPD has such a hard time finding people who want to work there and stay, they require new hires sign a 5 year contract... if an officer leaves before then, s/he gets sued for the cost of training, roughly $200,000. I believe they recently filed suit against almost 100 former officers who went to other depts... most of the decent guys at LAPD lateral to other depts in Ca to escape LAPD politics.

Its no wonder they cant meet recruitment goals... meanwhile the LA Sheriffs Dept requires no contract, better pay, less media drama and they've consistently met their hiring goals.

As far as the conduct of the officers in the video, eh.. sometimes what needs to be done is ugly... I have been in the exact same position and although fun,  its ruled by confusion. Like the "fog of war" grunt line officers usually don't have much of a clue wtf is going on, or are operating based on "reports" which is cop talk for what basically amounts to  rumors. If they were told 10- 15 officers were hurt, or that officers were being assaulted... playtime is over.

The LAPD unfortunately isn't allowed to be caught looking ugly on video, even if justified. From what I saw I can tell you with 100% certainty they did exactly as they were trained to do.

FWIW MacArthur Park is near downtown and is infamous for criminal activity and the hang out for every dirtbag in the area..  when they drained the sewer pond , dozens of guns and knives were recovered. Its a few blocks from a lovely place called "The nickle", AKA skid row where melees of violence break out, eh.. 2-3 times a week and dead bodies are found daily.

If the city of LA had a butthole, it would be MacArthur Park... LAPD got caught wiping on camera and a few guys will lose their careers to appease the idiots at city hall..

The problem starts way before any altercation took place.
It starts with the buffoons in our government who openly allowed protests to be held on U.S. soil when it was a known factor that the protesters would include a large number of people who were not legal citizens of the U.S. and were in fact breaking the very basics of U.S. laws by being in this country to begin with.

And.......it can go back way further than that if you wish to consider who let it get to this point over a period of years.

Ya know I say just kick the illegals out and we woudlnt have to worry about this. That or just line a few up in front of national media and execute them to send a message to the rest. That would probably have a more profound effect. :aok

WOW!!!!! Reporters are such idiots. Looked to me like the police did just what they were trained to do when faced with an unrully crowd.

"Use the minimum force neccesary to compel compliance"

No one got killed, a few people got the crap kicked out of them....end of story. Maybe if they hadn't started throwing rocks and stuff at the police, the police wouldn't have started kicking butt like they are supposed to in those situations. Common sense, but those folks obviously don't have any.

I wish people had the brains to understand that if your going to grab a tiger by the tail and kick it in the ass, you better have a plan for dealing with it's teeth.

Protesters threw rocks at the police. Police moved in and dispersed the protesters. A very low number of protesters were hurt. Where is the problem here? I'd say they deserve a pat on the back. Good job LAPD.

Reporters aren't idiots.  The people who watch their shows and read their newspapers are.

This is just sensationalism and it gets viewers/readers.  Present the facts of this incident fair and balanced and no one is going to watch.  Of course they slant it with inflection and such.

Reporters aren't idiots.  They know exactly what they're doing.

The press was attacked. That is bad. Throwing a cameraman to the ground, kicking him and then tossing his camera is bad. It is also pretty clear that is wasn't a walmart camcorder.

Disband The Border Patrol and INS and save millions of tax dollars. They're obviously completely and willfully ineffectual.

Illegals can literally parade through the streets and assail police on live TV.

Well that's what happens when you try and interfere with the police doing their job. That cameraman was in the way and he wasn't going to move, so the police moved him. The 1st Ammendment doesn't give the press the right to interfere in police matters and that's what they were doing and they got bit on the bellybutton for it. It's about time too.

Attacking the press was wrong.

Attacking the illegals was not.  You choose to hang out in a crowd that is throwing rocks at the police, you are going to get what you deserve by virtue of being in the crowd.

You know members of the "press" were involved because the media reported it, the skirmish line officers tasked with clearing the park cant assume everyone with a camera and laminated ID around their neck is the "press". Besides that the press only have special rights to enter "natural disaster areas", if they're standing with the crowd... they are just people who need to be moved.

Now it may seem obvious who the "press" is, but the intardnet has spawned dozens of loons who have a web pages and try to claim "press status", dressing for the part of course.

Media people think they are special, immune from being shoved after not complying with a lawful order to disperse... if they had left, they couldn't stand in the way and get a "big story" out of it.
