Interesting situation here...taxes
« on: May 08, 2007, 07:40:56 PM »
Up here in Maine, the powers that be finally decided we, the people, are responsible enough to gamble or not.  So, we have a facility here in Bangor that offers slot machines.

Penn National Gaming negotitated long and hard to setup shop here.  Essentially out of every dollar they earn, they lose 51% to various taxes.

Now, in the midst of a $139 million dollar investment in town, the state's greedy Democrats, unwilling to stop spending, wants to change the rules/terms of taxation now.  As a result, Penn has put an immediate freeze on construction.

We're the 3rd highest state in regards to taxation.  Businesses, far and wide, do not bother to wander up this way.  Kids graduating leave the state in droves, going where the jobs are.  This sort of action from our state government just reinforces that we're just not willing to be business friendly...or even keep our promises.

The situation here is they promised not to raise the tax rate. So they just redid the appraisals. Everyones property valuation went up 33%. This way they can campaign that they didn't raise taxes altho the taxes went up by 1/3.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Wow, Sandy... no wonder Maine raised taxes on gambling and Texas upped their appraisals!
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

wars get paid off... but..

name one program that democrats have come up with that hasn't grown into a monster over the years.  The things democrats come up with all end up costing more and more and more and more every year forever.

Give em tax money for ciggs or gambling and when the vice goes away the addiction and dependence on the tax money doesn't.

The raise in taxes has nothing to do with the war, it's about money going into the pockets of the local board.  The reason they raise property value is because they know people will be forced to sell their property to the big businesses who pocket the local boards so they can build new stores.
