Hot Keys request
« on: May 09, 2007, 04:36:15 PM »
Please post here for serious requests involving keyboard shortcuts to get to pre-existing features or even new features related to keyboard shortcuts.

1) A key to toggle the "room/range" name list without bringing up your text buffer. Sometimes you're organizing stuff on vox and need to see who's on while transmitting at the same time. Also would be handy to have up in flight sometimes, and can't have text buffer open all the time while flying.

2) A key to pop up the E6B, even if your clipboard didn't have it popped up already. If clipboard minimized, brings it to forground. Hitting again would minimize. Basically it's like the "clipboard" key, but it pops out the E6B when it does it, instead.

3) a dot command or a key to remind you of what your salvo and delay settings currently are set to. I would like to have ".salvo" and ".delay" present current settings, if no argument is supplied. Now they say "must have a range from XXX to YYY" -- and won't tell you what it's set to unless you enter a valid value -- which is a waste of time.

4) A "ground taxi" key that will toggle F3, forward, and down all at the same time. Basically it will hold a 45 degree down/forward angle so that you can better taxi once your wheels are down. It's annyoing to have to constantly hit F8 and pan up and around. Then if you hear the raid siren while you're on the hotpad you have to toggle F7 real fast and look around to see if you're safe, then back to forward fiew, F8, "down" and pan back to a "see where you're going" taxi view. It would be nice to have this view built-in. Have it only work on the ground, if you're in flight it just won't do anything. In this "Ground taxi" mode you can snap pan arond like normal, but the "default" forward is down instead of forward. That way you can stay alert and get back to taxiing with the press fo a single key.

Fill in others here. Start with 5 and build up from there.

5) not a "hot key" but still a control request. on the roster page, 2 wildcard fields, 1 player and 1 squad. if sorted by player name, you could start typing into the field "XX" and it would jump to players starting with that letter or number. same deal with squad. say I'm looking for all the guys in "++ squad XX " start typing ++ and it jumps to that section of the roster.
I don't know what to put here yet.

Spikes, I just tried it. It doesn't work. Everytime you type letters after the .salvo command, it reset to the standard salvo=1.

6) A button that when you tab a friendlies name in can automatically type a message into channel 200 when they steal a kill of yours ^_^ example (be on the lookout for noob he has an outstanding killstealer warrant on him, reward if brought back dead or alive)

7) A button so that you can auto-correct a half missing wing with trim, or a way to disable your trim from being reset if you hit auto-pilot

devildog, there is a new trim button that's supposed to do #7. It's period (".") I believe. I haven't had much call to use it m'self, but it's there.

How about a button to increase and decrease salvo?

I like the other suggestions, but I'm really sick of using a dot command for a flight control.  Well, not a flight control, but an important one.

We have some commands in this game that are not bound to any key by default, such as stick set keys. If you want you can go and map them to some key you like.

How about giving us the option for mapping "set salvo 1" "set salvo 2" "set salvo 3" "set salvo 5" "set salvo 10" --- not sure which numbers to include, because you can't include them all!!.

Then you could go in and manually map it to a key or button and voila.

Personally I'd like this one:

8) Command for ".salvo all" -- so it drops all bombs if you have different types. Examples include the centerline bomb on a Ju88 as well as the wing bombs, or the 2 center bombs on the 110 and the 4x wing bombs. Or the Ju88s externals and internals. Or the Boston's internals and externals (same types, different selections), or the Mossie's internals and externals.

I remember when FlaydONE really was into the game, he had macros setup on his x52 buttons for this. I do realize not everyone has this setup, and I don't have the patience for the X52, but it was a neat setup. Hit a button for salvo, hit a button for calibration, and there you go.

I do have a macro set up.  Still, it would be a lot nicer to be able to assign a function and not have to worry about problems with the text buffer.  They only need two commands, and to make them linkable to buttons or key presses in the controls list.

.salvo +
.salvo -

actual numbers like .salvo 5 could still be left to the dot command and player choice, but not everyone knows or can set up macros, and one could very easily correct a salvo problem mid dive if it functioned in much the same manner as the flap controls do.

Krusty, are you referring to the "Trim set" command listed in the Key mapping tool? If so, it's unmapped by default, and I couldn't find any command bound to the "." key.
