Museum pics.. Enjoy
« on: May 10, 2007, 09:07:04 PM »
These are some pics I took when Thundregg and I went to see the P-38 last weekend at the Warhawk air museum in Namp Idaho.

First are some pics of the P-38

Here is a pic of the project manager for Gacier Girl. He had a good presentation about how they got the plane out of the ice and this pic is of a 55 gallon drum that they used to test Glacier Girls cannon out on after they had removed it from the plane and brought it up out of the 150 some odd FT hole.

Here are a couple pics of the P-51.

and the view that we like to see in game assuming you can catch up to it.

and the P-40 they had flying that day.

A P-40 insterment cluster.

And for all you Pearl Harbor fans, the actuall Ben Aflec.. Yes the plane he used in the movie.  They had a nice lil picture board up of shipping this down to the movie set and Ben in the seat.

I have more pics but I didn't feel like spending that much time puting them all up on my dialup connection.  I may post them later.  Enjoy.
From the ashes of the old we rise to fly again. Behold The Phoenix Wing!

Pics like these should be a permanent feature of the AH website - kinda like a museum and reference library.
Here we are, living on top of a molten ball of rock, spinning around at a 1,000mph, orbiting a nuclear fireball and whizzing through space at half-a-million miles per hour. Most of us believe in super-beings which for some reason need to be praised for setting this up. This, apparently, is normal.

What's up with the P-51's tail? Is that a racing modification, perhaps?

Late late model? -N or -H? Did any of those have extended tails?

Well there were no P-51Ns, and the H was a lightened version of the D with radically different gear.

The Cavalier Mustang was different still, but this was a stock P-51D which crashed, was rebuilt as "Stilletto" a racer, and then rebuilt in to a TF-51D.  The tail is a modification not stock for the airframe.

More about this airframe here.
