Hey All,

I am hoping from some help as I am not by any stretch a computer guy and need someone with some expertise. For about 5 months now I have been having issues with my computer minimizing Aces High and sending me to the desktop. This isn't a huge issue when I am on autopilot climbing out or am in level flight as I just click on the Aces High tab and back into the game I go. However, this is a huge problem when I am dogfighting or in a dive and I can not count how many times I have had the desktop pop up and come back to pancake city or clip my wings on the ground/ tree/water etc. as I was low dogfighting and in a turn.

I have tried a lot of the basics like checking for spyware, shutting down my antivirus program while playing the game, defragmenting the hard drive, and disk cleanup. I really need to get this fixed and am out of ideas as to what it might be. It is getting old to have 5 or 6 kills and die because I get booted to the desktop.

Any computer experts, I need your help!!!!

I had the same issue a while ago. It seems that there is another program starting up, or an update to your security software that causes this. Double check to make sure you don't have auto updates on anything. I did and turned it off. Haven't had any problems now for about 6 months.

The only time I had similar issues turned out to be a particularly nasty virus type thing that could not be found by spyware scanners. It was a .DLL file in the Windows/system32 folder that used a ":" instead of a "/" in its path name (sorry can't remember its actual name). It would regularly crash any running internet applications. I found it by doing a massive clean as per the instructions on "majorgeeks.com". It was actually the free online Microsoft scanner part of the process that removed it.

This may not be your issue, but given how long its been happening to you...sounds similar.

There is a program you can download off of the net called FSAutostart. It works GREAT by shutting off all programs running in your background.

Check the sart menu for anything that auto-updates. I always leave all that suff off and update manually.

Also, for example, if you turn off your anti-virus or anti-spyware you are not turning off the auto-updater. Even if you then go and turn off the updater in the start menu, the next time you turn on the anti-virus or anti-spyware the updater starts up and places itself back into the start menu.

For this reason I also only run anti-virus and anti-spyware manually on a scheduled basis, leaving them off the rest of the time. I am, however behind both a router and a software firewall.

To get a bit more detailed. It is most likely a program running in the background that pings its URL, or does something to make it the more important program running at that moment. To find out which one it is, you can run FSAutostart. FSA is a free program that kills running services and programs on your computer. The really cool thing about it is, it DOES NOT CHANGE ANY COMPUTER SETTINGS !!! What that means is you can turn stuff off, and should it turn out to be something really important to run your computer, and it crashes, no problem, just re boot and your back to were you were before you were messing around.

FSA has a decent set-up. You can mouse over services, and programs running, and it will try to tell you what it is, and if its needed or not. You can also "google" any thing listed and get a pretty good idea if you should shut it off or not.

Once you figure out which program is causing your problem, you either change the setting in that program to stop it from doing what its doing to mess you up, or you can stop it by running FSA before you start AH2.
