complaining about "issues"
« on: May 23, 2007, 05:12:34 PM »
Does anyone else here except me believe that the term "issues" is the laziest, sloppiest, most annoying piece of verbiage in the English Language?

Let's toss in this generic term which covers EVERYTHING so we don't have to articulate anything ever again.... "issues"
good grief  *rolling my eyes*

And as long as I'm already complaining... what about "WE?"
I hate to hear "WE" in a sentence like this one:
"We need to yada yada yada yada."
That actually translates into "You" there.

If you mean you want someone to do something... just say "You..."  Don't make it sound liberally like you're actually going to help out in any fashion (because you know you're not)... just say "You."

A much greater problem is the overuse of quote marks.

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you on this blurb.  I personally despise the use of the word "One" as a pronoun.  Anytime anyone uses it, I am a half second and the sound of a twig break away from strangling them.

It isn't the word that bothers me, but the sound and GOOFY ****ING FACE that anyone in the world makes when they do it.  Every person in this world becomes a giant sweetheart bag, even if just for a moment when they do it.

Watch.  Every single person makes a weird face anytime they use it.  They make the same weird face.  They all make the same face.  Just watch.  And soon, you'll hate it as much as I do.

The overuse of quote marks is the greatest single reason for the decline of western civilization.

What, though, about commas?  Would you, Holden McGroin, say that commas, as a punctuation mark and nothing more, have also led to the decline, AT LEAST of the western civilization, if not, the world?

The overuse of commas has been a contributor, but not to the degree of quotation marks.

Nobody does air commas.
