Just got home.
This is a very welcome event, even it it does not come as a surprise.
My deepest thanks to all those that voted for the B-25 and supported it with posts.
Waffle, thank you very much for a great model. I truly appreciate it.
Cit, special thanks to you for a beautiful skin. I can't wait to show him.
I will be contacting him tomorrow and telling him for the first time. I didn't want to say anything until it was a reality.
It comes at a very good time. He's in damn good shape for a soon to be 87 year old man. Nonetheless, father time is taking it's toll. He still gets out now and then in his PT-26 although we don't let him go solo anymore.
Just recently though, my mom, his life partner since 1943...what a story that wedding makes. They had a agreed to wait to marry until he returned from the war. He was afraid of making her a war widow. In those early years of the war, the life expectancy of a combat pilot wasn't that great. (Of the 8 guys in the replacement group that shipped over, only he and one other came home.) She went with his sister to visit him in Columbia, SC just before he was due to ship out. They changed their minds and got married against the wishes of her family. They've been together without a hitch ever since.
Anyway, Mom was just diagnosed with her second bout of breast cancer. She survived the first one 37 years ago after a brutal surgery. It was all they knew at the time. She's due for another operation, although this one won't be nearly as severe. She's tough; I have high hopes for success.l
So, this comes at a good time. It will give them something to talk about instead to the 800 pound gorilla in the corner of the room.
My thanks to you all. HT, Pyro, Waffle, Cit ...all the gang. This means a lot to me.
