Buff kills
« on: July 29, 2007, 07:49:51 PM »
I noticed this wasn't brought up in my search so here it is. Last night I shot down three B26s but only credit for two kills despite shooting up all three. I mentioned something about it in country chat and was told it has happened several times. It happened again but with two B24s; shot both down but only given one ''you shot down'' messenge.

Another player had attacked the buffs before and just put more rounds into that target than you.

But shouldn't kills be awarded to who actually FINISHES the job?:huh

No wait, wait, I see a kill stealing problem:eek:

Still I think the kill should go to whoever does more damage as opposed to put more rounds on target.
I mean I could put 50 rounds of a 30cal at 600 yards, causing no damage. Then a 109K comes along and puts the target out of his misery with an "expert" tatter shot and I fly home with a kill?:p

Is that really how it works right now?

not exactly hazard, its ammo count+ lethal damage register, he must either put a hell ofalot of 30 cals in or cause some catistrophic damage othwerwise in theory i think the 109 is awarded the kill *i think*

Note:

If you didn't get the kill you should have gotten an assist.

One should be listed as "Kill #1 blah blah" and the other as "assist on blah blah"

No, the kill is awarded to who does the most damage. Thing is, different pieces "soak up" more damage before failing than others. If you sweep wingtip to wingtip with .50 fire, you've actually done a good bit of calculated damage to the aircraft even if nothing has failed. Someone then comes by and fires a couple rounds in an expert shot into the wing spar and it snaps like a twig. The amount of damage to that wing spar is less than the amount of damage that you dealt to the whole airframe; you get the kill.
Note that explosive rounds will deal damage to many parts at the same time.

This is the reason a 110 can fly around stealing all of the kills on tanks. For some reason, tank treads have an amazing "hardness" to them; they take a lot to kill. The 110 buzzes around dealing massive explosive damage to the tracks that do not die. Somebody in a Tiger puts an 88mm hole in the driver's head. That 88mm killed the tank, but was a fraction of the calculated damage the 110 dealt to the tank. Ricochet rounds do not count in this area, but rounds landing next to the tank treads still have the "tiny bomb" effect and deal damage.
