How long till PS2 and 360 die out?
« on: July 31, 2007, 07:26:37 PM »
With the new PS3 and Nintendo Wii how do you think it will take for the PS2 and Xbox 360 to die out just like the PS1 and Gamecube? I personally believe it will be within the year seeing how the PS3 is just 1 big iPod but with better games, and the Wii is the closest things civilians have to virtual reality.

They are still making a few games for PS2 but game releases are slowing for it...

The Wii will probably be aimed towards younger gamers like the gamecube was.

The XBOX wont die out I dont think.  Simply because I know that they can be modified with different bios and software stuff. Hardware modifications also, which then allow people to save entire games to their hard drives.
So no it wont go away anytime soon.   Neither will my regular XBOX.

360 has probably 2-4 years before we see the next generation of console. Overall, it's a pretty good system.

PS2 is pretty dead. Unfortunately PS3, which not a bad system, is incredibly overpriced and companies spend all their money on marketing instead of coding and rarely take advantage of the PS3s capabilities.

Wii will be around for quite some time I would think. It really is the best party gaming system I've played.

We got a Wii for my oldest's birthday.  They were sold out here so I had a friend coming down this Friday so he bought it for me and will carry it down.

He called the day he bought it "suggesting" that he open it to make sure it worked.  I laughed because I knew he just wanted to try it out...but it made perfect sense anyway...he could have taken it back if it didn't work, immediately.

Anyhoo...he called a few days later and said "Dude...I gotta get me one of these things."

I'm looking forward to it...even my wife is.  I forsee a few family gaming nights in the near future.:aok

You must be talking about regular xbox and ps2. I read something recently that said that most developers have moved on to the new systems (360,ps3) exclusively. I would bet that you'll only see a few 'new' titles as well as the usual crappy movie licensed games coming out for the older gen stuff.

The 360 is right up there with the ps3 in terms of hardware right now, with the only real advantage I can see is the ps3 having the blu-ray. However online wise Xbox Live is leaps and bounds ahead of Sony's Home service at this time. The Wii is ultra cool, but doesn't have the horsepower to keep up graphically so you will see Nintendo releasing more novelty games that are fun to play with the nunchuks. I'm waiting for them to release a hockey game before I buy one. :)

That's the power of Wii imho. Anybody can play most of the games and there's practically no learning curve. It's a far cry from trying to get good at something like Halo using the thumbsticks. Best family game system made so far. Can't wait till Nintendo's next generation. :aok

IMHO the ps3 is really a glorified blu-ray player. Sony rushed the release to push the numbers of blu-ray players sold to aid in their marketing campain for that HD format.

From what I have read the ps3 is not meeting any of the sales goals, and is actually being out sold by xbox360 and wii by more than 2 to 1. which is quite surprising considering that they were the market leader with the previous generation consoles.

I don't think that the xbox360, or the wii will be going away any time soon. As indy007 stated the 360 has another couple of years before the next gen xbox is released, and the wii seems to have captured a large market segment with a gaming console that is really inovative in it's aproach to playing games but really low tech in it's hardware compared to the 360, and ps3.

Truthfuly I will never buy another Sony product, and this coming from someone that was a diehard Sony man. Sony has gotten to big, and to powerful, and their products aren't all that great any more. They worry more about protecting their movies, and music than they do about building good electronics.

They make a device called FPS magic.... lets you use a mouse and a keyboard instead of two thumbsticks.

THe only problem I have had with the 360 is I had to send it in for repair already.  The thing isnt even a year old and after play Ghost Recon 2 my system overheated frying the graphics card.  I solved that problem with an intercooling fan that cost 8 buck.  Havent had a problem since.

I do say Xbox service is great.  I called up told them my problem.  They sent me a box.  Loaded my 360... 7 days later had a brand new one with an explanation on what happened to my old one. So far so good.  Knock on wood.:aok

I heard the 360 did pretty bad in sales at Asia, especially in Japan.

I wonder what went wrong.  Is it Microsoft's poor marketing?  Is it the differences in gaming culture of East and West?  Is Nintendo/Sony too established in Asia that there's no room for Microsoft?
