strat system
« on: September 02, 2007, 07:37:21 PM »
I've got a map in the works and I just realized that i know nothing about the strat system, and i have a lot of questions.

What are the object properties of the factories and cities?

How do you place roads, and what do you do with them?

how do i place a convoy, barge and a train?

where do roads lead too?

do you have to place barges, convoys, and trains on waypoints?

thanks ill post a pic of my map when its finished.

I might be mistaken yet usually the properties are "Group Master" for the factories.

Usually the easiest way to make roads is to setup your strat system and know everything you need is setup correctly, then in the "Roads" tab you simply press "Create All". Once you did that you press "Redo Objects" or "Redo All" to place the trains on the tracks and convoys on the roads. Please note that if you want trains or rivers you have to manually edit the road's properties to change that.

The roads, train tracks, and rivers (from my knowledge) lead from factories to depots where the supplies are distributed to local airfields that require field supplies to fix any recent damage. This also goes for Vehicle fields, HQs, towns, cities, and I believe the factories themselves. Yet once again, I am not certain.

No, your Convoys, Trains, and barges do not need waypoints. Once you press the "Redo all" / "Redo Objects" button the convoys, trains, and barges are assigned a road, train track, or river to follow.

Hopefully that helps somewhat, once again, I'm not certain on all of it since I rarely mess with strat or roads.

Everything except spawn points, CVs, map rooms for CVs and shore batteries is a Group Master owned either by a base or a country.

Factories and zone cities are Group Master, Country Owned and the appropriate zone should be set.

Denholm is correct in that after all bases and factories are placed just use "Create All" on the roads tab. That will place everything needed on the map. Then edit the ones that need editing and use "Redo Objects" after editing. Roads and Tracks should be no more than 10 miles long, barge paths should be no more than 3 miles long.

If it's not shown in the Shape Group column, I'd say reinstall the TE.

You may have already tried this, but also make sure that it's not one of the entries listed in "shpflter.txt" as that will prevent it from showing in the TE.

It's not in the Shapes list, it's in the Shape group list. That's why NHawk said to reinstall the TE if you don't see it. If you don't see it there it's because you deleted it.
