In any nursery school you'll find that there are kids who spend time building with blocks, and then there are those who spend their time knocking down what others have built. It's always easier to knock down than to build up.
In the same way, gaining the genuine respect of others, especially in an impersonal medium like the internet, is difficult and requires time, effort, and strength of character. To become a momentary cause célèbre by setting out to be as irritating as possible doesn't require much effort at all. In the end though, ask yourself, how do you want to be remembered? As the person at the party who everyone enjoyed meeting and talking to, or the offensive drunk who caused a scene and got kicked out?
