Im new to AH 2 and id like to start flying P47s. I flew a lot of P47 in Il2 Sturmovik though. I did some plane comparisons with gonzos comparison system but they all look pretty similar.

The P-47N and P-47D-11 seems to be the best ones by statistics. Any P47 aces around? I could use some tips

Which P47 is the most popular and the "best"?

I know they are probably a bad plane for a starter but id like to master P47 :)

Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

Talk to the jug dweebs over at the 56th FG...

As for the 'best'
The D40 is the best all around (might be the most popular) but they are all flown a lot...I take the D40 on CV runs...I take the D25 or D11 on dogfighting/furball runs. I rarely fly the N but when I do I love it :aok

Hook up with some guys over at the 56th...they should be able to help ya:aok

P47N is fastest of the lot by 25 knots or so, but ONLY while wep remains, (engine can overheat, killingf wep, even though it remains...let it cool down, turn wep on agin) otherwise D40 is better plane, as N is larger, and climbs slower. I still like the N...save wep and use it judiciously, like when the horde is after me:)

Yea those 56th guys are truly some of the best, nicest and most sportsman like guys in all of AH. The things they do in Jugs are truly breathtaking.  I may be a 38 dweeb but Jugs are high on my list (no pun intended).  :D

P-47N is extremely heavy, and without WEP it is not much of a fighter.

P-47D11 is actually very agile, but a poor climber.

The basic way to fight in P-47s is to use it as an energy fighter.  Come in at a target with an advantage in either altitude or speed.  Make a gun run on him, but don't turn more than 45 degrees.  Once you make the attack, let your momentum carry you back to an altitude that your opponent cannot reach, and set yourself up for another attack.

If you get slow in a P-47, it takes forever to accelerate back to a fighting speed.

Thanks for the advices everyone :aok

What kind of weapon loadout is good for Jugs? If i have lets say 6x 267 rp instead of 8x 425 rp weapons, does it make a big difference in the Jugs performance?

8x 267 is the one mostly used because of you can be lighter but but have a better chance to hit them

Always take the 8 guns. The Jug usually do not get more than one shot opportunity which it must use to cause enough damage to turn the fight around. Some people would argue that the lighter 6 gun package will give you enough performance advantage to be worth it. I argue that your current fuel status has far greater significance than the extra 2 guns, so you will rarely feel the difference. You will often feel the difference of extra 33% in firepower though.

As for ammo, I tend to take the 425 rpg. I am a terrible shot. The large loadout does carry some weight penalty, but the first attacks you make are often from offensive position BnZ style. I go trigger happy and hose everything till I get down to 1000 on the counters. At that point you are down to the smaller loadout and can start to aim better.

I think that the D40 is the best. I used to fly the N version but it feels sluggish and heavy and I think it downright sucks.  The D40 can hold a impressive amount of ordinance and is suprisingly manuverable for a plane its size. the D25 can't carry as much but it does have great range and manuverability.  I also think the 6 gun package is the best gun package.  If you want my personal opinion, I think the D40 is the best P-47 out there.
Happy flying!!
