Being a Heavy Equipment operator myself...It made me wonder how he got into that thing, The way that box was welded on there.

Also, they should have known that using an EMPTY Push-pull scraper was not the way to go-They don't have enough weight to slow down a dozer.

Plus, he did not weld all that crap up by himself, in an afternoon. That looks like at least 2-3 days' work, involving a truck-mounted Hydro-crane to hold the plates in place while he welds them. It also had to have been hotter than hell in there, I'm sure with some exhaust fumes building in the cab.

Believe it or not-There is!!!

Top pay scale is $36.54 per hour right now, where I am. That of course, changes with different locations. My benefits are on top of of that, So you actually keep the 36.54.

Also, the potential to buy your own machine and go into business for yourself-but you should'nt do it unless you have a few industry connections.

The story that came out when they broad cast it was pretty simple. The guy had a beef with the city council as they wouldn't approve his business or construction. He got the loader and spent some time putting the cage together. When he went on his rampage he had one place to go in and welded it shut after he got in. It was a suicide situation from the start and IIRC he shot himself after the loader was no longer able to run. No one was hurt but he went after all of the council members property and munched it up.

Well, yeah, Mav, I read that part. But having sat in more than one dozer, I'd think that the dude would have passed out in about 45min. to an hour in that thing. Plus, you'd have the exhaust fumes leaking in (The turbo-to-exhaust seal on a cat will leak when they get old) And I'd think he'd be overcome by fumes. Heck, I saw a guy on a D9N, about 23 and in good health, actually pass out at the controls, with just a regular cab. The exhaust was leaking really badly because of a broken pipe joint, and he had an enclosed cab with busted AC. I'd think that an armored hood would make things alot worse. I'm thinking that he would have expired in there anyways...

IIRC that guy spent about a year building it. At least thats what I remember when the story first came out.

The guy ran a muffler shop, I don't think exhaust fumes were a major factor........

He had airconditioning, video cameras and monitors for seeing where he was going, and compressed air nozzles to keep debris away from the cameras.

Pretty clever.

Think of how quickly that all would have ended if some brave cop had jumped on the hood and put a few rounds through the viewport.
