Also it's harder to do either with a twisty stick (harder to regulate cross-control) than with seperate rudder pedals and stick.

Thats pretty easy to do for me with a twisty stick :)
I've been doing that since I last temporarily quit AHII.
I did it because it looked a lot like a power slide done in a car, gave me a sliding kind of feel, but really its just a forward slip with a bit of elevator added on there.
