Sound

Every few years playing AH I build a new computer. I try to get as good a computer as I can get and make it last.  So always the learning curve to get it to run smoothly and correctly.  This computer is:
Asus P5E, Intel q6600, evga 8600 gts, Ram =4gig DDR2  5700, raid 10 with 4 WD 150 gig rapters, Vista Ultimate.
Problem= When I would start to Run AH the sound would work for anywhere up to a minute, then first the voice would quit, and sometimes the airplane sounds.
The P5e autodetects the speakers and I am using some 5.1 surround speakers.  I turned that off.  No difference.  Read the sticky about Using Vista and multicore processors.  One of the items was using MSCONFIG and changing the boot cpu to match the number of cpu's in the system.  I changed from 1 to 4 and the sound worked.
I don't know that much about computers, but I thought I would share this information just in case someone had a similar problem.  No idea why or if that made a difference, but its working now.  Your experience may differ, and this is a work in progreess.  I didn't find any other posts that really seemed like my problem.
