KILLEEN - A Killeen boy has died after being attacked by the family's pit bull.  It happened at 2907 Fairlane Tuesday evening around 6:30 p.m.

Killeen police say 11-year-old Seth Lovitt and his 9-year-old brother were wrestling and running through the house when the dog attacked.

The boys' grandmother and mother were able to pull the dog off of the 11-year-old. Lovitt was air-lifted to Carl R. Darnall Medical Center at Fort Hood and died two hours later.

The dog has been taken into custody by Killeen Animal Control Unit and placed into quarantine.

The case is still under investigation.

wow, that's rough...  My heart goes out to that family.  Having lost my kid brother recently (well, 10 years now, but still feels recent...) I know what a hit that is, both to his brother and his parents.  :cry

Sorry to hear about your brother, addict.

The kids at their school seem to all be doing okay (probably not nearly close to the same for the family though).

The schools around here have an amazing group of admin & counselors ~ I've never seen anything like these counselors around here ~ something to be admired in those folks to be able to do what they've done around here the last few years.

RIP Seth.   <>  Texasmom, please offer his family my condolences.   He was too young and I am old fashioned in the sense that kids should outlive their parents.

While I do believe that dogs are the product of how they are raised, and we will never know the details in this tragic case, it's more than a coincidence the rate of attacks by pit bulls.

The family pet killing one of its own?  Incredible and sad.

Terrible... those parents placing their kids in such a dangerous environment. Wonder if charges will be filed?

Either there is a higher incidence of morons owning pit bulls then other breeds, or pit bulls are just more likely to attack.

Both are actually the case in my opinion.

60% of fatal dog attacks in the USA are from pit bulls.

It's not "the owners", it's a breed raised to fight,  and years of breeding and training are not easily suppressed.

Too many morons buy pit bulls in an attempt to buy a persona, they try to compensate for their own sagging self-esteem, they want to buy something to impress others.  The results are often not pretty.

It's a tragedy so often children pay the price.

Uncool Shuffler, MAJOR uncool. A child is dead, and a family is grieving, there's no need for statements like that.
