I like the Tips 'o the Day

Why, just today, I learned that F4 takes you instantly out of the game and to Windows.

Here I thought that Command:
a) Was instant help for Noobs
b) Made you fly faster
c) Dropped your ords
4) Connected you directly to HiTech
e) Made your guns "lock on" your target
f) ... fill in the blank ...



Kidding aside, it is nice. I've seen a couple I didn't know about.

I learned that it's HiTech's voice on the default Check 6.

Seroulsy?  I've know that from word of mouth since like the dawn of time  The original "base is under attack" was reportedly Yankee.  Been so long since Ive ran default sounds, I don't even know what the current ones sound like.

Actually, the default "base is under attack" sounds suspiciously like one from the old Intellivision voice game "Space Spartans"

the one i'm trying to figure out is...

"it takes 10 uninjured paratroopers to capture a maproom"

exactly what do they mean by "uninjured"?

(and the HiTech chk6 thing was one of the tips)

Check6 was one of my first sounds to go.  I think I mentally jumped 10 feet out of my seat the first time that went off....startled the crap out of me.

I replaced the check six call (which strikes me as sounding eerily like that psycho in Silence of the Lambs) with Nath's infamous woo woo, which probably causes me nearly as many deaths as enemy fire.

I've seen a couple of tips on things that I didn't know either. Kind of embarrassing after 6 years, but they're not things that effect my gameplay. Beats sitting there trying to read the file names at ludicrous speed, and a few are actually humorous.

I replaced the HT Chk 6 with TwinBoom's British "you've got one on your tail!". May not be as good as "LEEEROOY JENKINS!!" but it works.

I couldent figure out how to change the check 6 for like 2 months... worst time in my AH life

I'll tell you what, download Mitsu's sound pack and you find yourself with a very manageable "Watch it, you've got one on your tail!" That is, until you step into the 109G-14, and all of a sudden you have a baller german check six that I cant even attempt to pronounce here, but it is awesome.
