Why do musicians die so young?

Do they burn there wicks out to fast or something.

Do they not care or have any concept of restraint?

Some musicians i just don't think are made to live very long and don't fit in with life anyway.

Was determined to be a cocaine overdose.  His body was found in his house...approximately SIX DAYS after he died.  6 days...I guess nobody missed him.

Layne Staley of Alice in Chains lay in his apartment for a long time too before anyone bothered to bust the door down.

It's gotta suck, being an egomaniac, to go from complete adulation to...

...no calls

A drunk driver will run a stop sign. A stoned driver will stop until it turns green.

Being a performer myself, I can say that it takes a certain amount of ego-maniacal narcissism to confidently get on a stage, accept adulation and expect to be paid for it.

True true.

I think a large part of Layne's problem was his inability to cope with fame.  His complete misunderstanding of the adulation and fear of being found out as a fraud.

Not saying that he was a fraud, but a person who looks at themselves as a normal, everyday guy who is suddenly thrust into a spotlight and surrounded by sycophants will question the motives of those around them and what is expected of them.

Being elevated to a near god-like standing and the fear that goes with that of being found out as a mere mortal...

Jeez, and I always thought Layne's problem was heroin.

Actually, Layne lost a bunch of friends previous to his passing.   He coped with fame just fine.    It was the fact that Andrew Wood passing on in 1992, opened a floodgate of deaths around him.

Not to mention his liver was trashed by 1999 because of the heroin and cocaine addictions.    The drugs were a crutch for him long before Alice In Chains became mainstream, all the way back to 1987.
