Computer stats (Steam-players)

Quite interesting to see what systems people are using today... I wonder  what would be result with AHers compared to Steam players.

Every few months Steam runs a hardware survey. If you participate, the survey collects data about what kinds of computer hardware and system software you're using, and the results get sent to Steam.

Unique Samples: 771259

would be nice if u could add ur system specs and it would tell u what % u were in. IE: top 5% for best system specs.

Well you could benchmark your computer with 3dMark06 or whatever version is out there now.  It will graphically test your computer and at the end give you a score and tell what percentage of all the tests run where you rank.

The problem with steam is their philosophy is "Screw the Players!"

They code what they want, when they want, as POORLY as they want, and for the highest end PCs they can get their hands on. They have almost never made anything that runs decently on mid-to-low end hardware, and just you TRY running HL2 on minimum settings on your HL1 rig. It looks like dog poop, and is about as smooth.

So, by definition, their games have high requirements. Thus, by definition, low-end players do NOT use steam, which cuts out a large portion of the gaming community in that hardware poll they take.

So it's skewed (biased) towards the higher end of the spectrum.

??

"They"(steam) dont have any games, it is only a place where people can buy and play games online. Most of them are box-games..

Steam is Valve, FYI. A lot of the big name games are from Valve. Only in the recent couple of years have they carried third party games on the steam system.

Every HL, HL2, or "source" game is a steam/valve game (same basic company, different names) (edit: Not counting 3rd party free mods)
