Of special interest to immersionists and AW vets

and, of course, for everyone else, too:

Allied v. Axis arena is hosting the product of the map created by Easyscor and his minions coupled with the febrile imagination of Fork.  For the next five weeks the arena will host - yes, it's true - a goal-oriented war, to be played on a map which bears an uncanny resemblance to the classic AirWarrior map of ages olde.

As always, there are no map resets in AvA.  Instead, and unlike the take-all-the-bases strategery of the MAs, this setup requires that your side not only take, but hold on the Day of Judgment a number of specific bases (including a V base).  (Hence, porking the map is actually counter-productive, as there will be no Day of Judgment.)  The war runs for five consecutive weeks, with goals assessed periodically and plane sets updated throughout the period.  Do well, and your side can even earn better planes.

In a radical departure from AvA tradition, sides are fixed.  You sign up for either Axis or Allies, and you stay on that side for the duration.  There is even a command structure, and it is possible to win decorations.  Squad operations are encouraged.  And, unlike a scenario, you rise like Lazarus after you've been victimized.

Come one, come all, kiss your girls goodbye, tie up your white silk scarves and pull down your goggles.  More details in the AvA forums.
