Allied Plane Upgrades....
« on: January 18, 2008, 08:55:01 AM »
Allied Pilots and Ground Crews,

We have an important decision and it seems the choices for our equipment upgrades will be expanding. I've seen a rumor that the map may remain the same for the next stage of this war, but until confirmation I'm going to assume that the map may also change.

Based upon what you've seen so far in the arena, and the tactics employed, I'd like to hold a vote on which plane(s) you'd like to choose.
Please give your primary AND secondary choices, as we may get two choices depending on if we win the first stage and if the points system is used.

Bf 109F-4
Bf 109G-2
Bf 110G-2
Fw 190A-3 (sub A-5)
C.202
Ju 88A-4
M-3 Halftrack
Tiger I

Allied Choices
A-20G
B-26B
Boston MK III
Hurricane II C or D
Lancaster III
P-38G
P-40E
Seafire IIC
Spitfire V
Spitfire Mk IX
Il-2 Type 3
Sherman

Here are the allied AND axis choices so we can see what we might be up against. Don't neglect the ground choice out of hand, as it may become important, though in my opinion I feel something that can land more bombs on target would be the best choice.

I'm not that familiar with the heavy bombers, so hopefully someone will chime in on which is preferable. It also appears the P-38, and Spit IX are available, and would be brutaly effective in the air war.

My first impression choices:
Heavy Bomber - The lancaster has the most bombs, not sure how this'll be affected and what bomb loads will be available. But I don't fly heavy bombers much so I don't know the details. The A-20 looks formidible too.

Secondary Choice: P-38G It can carry 2X1000lb bombs, and has a nose cannon for taking out enemy formations and in the right hands is a decent fighter.

Third Choice: Spit IX - it's a quick fighter with a decent clip, and great turn radius.

Chime in fellas! Everyone's opinion is important.

Thanks!

1) P-38G
2) B-26B or A-20

With the close proximities of this map I don't think the heavy bombers are all that advantageous.  You would have to up on the far side of the map to gain alt. for a mass formation bomb run on airfields because towns aren't strategic in this "war."

The 38 can carry 2 eggs, get them on target then boogie back home for more.  They could probably put the same amount of ords on target in the same, or less, time unless the lancs go NOE.

Just my opinion...not even worth 2 cents anymore!

If we get two plane upgrades I’d vote for the P-38G and Spit IX. The P-38G can hit ground targets with 500lb bombs and rockets and the Spit IX’s could provide fighter cover. If we end up with only one choice then I’d go with the 38. It can put ordinance on target and then function as a decent fighter. I agree with Yankee that the short hops between fields don’t really play to the strengths of the heavy bombers.

Allied needs something to counter the 110 its armour is insane its basicly 303 immune. Id rather see it introduced a little bit later but now that its in Id like to see a counter move from allied HQ.

At first I thought the B26, but since killin ack and barracks is important, the A20 is better suited.
