The Bear is still around?

this was an almost weekly occurance in the '70s and '80s, but it wasn't all over the papers then. I've heard of the F-14s getting so close to the Bears that the pilots would wave at each other. The US pilots even got to where they recognised particular planes and pilots from seeing them so often.

The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because the reports on the flights were classified as secret.

Gotta love it when they know somethings classified as "secret" but they still talk to reporters about it. :rofl

Maybe thats why they intercepted it- Russkies wanted a look at their products new worst nightmare :D

F-22 is one of only about 3 jets in the whole world I'd want to fly (the other two being the A-10 and MiG-29). That thing is seriously sweet.

I used to have a video tape of F-15's intercepting a Bear off the coast of Alaska. The F-15 with the video camera was so close to the Bear, you could see the tail gunner holding up a Coke can and waving. ;)

Russia is flexing its muscle.

With its 1950s aircraft.

Dont underestimate what has been an extremely successful design. Were still using B-52s as our main bomb humper.

I think its pretty entertaining how this one type of russian bomber has been interceptd by two generations of fighter aircraft. built it right the first time i guess.

Actually 3 or 4 generations, the Phantoms and century-series fighters used to run into them too I think.
