As promised, here is a quick tutorial covering static camera shots- one non-tracking and one tracking a target plane.

Disclaimer- this is not a 'definitive' film viewer tutorial. I'm only covering a couple types of shots and some very basic functionality. I'm hoping this will get people starting to play with the viewer a little more, and maybe figure out some better or easier methods!

Sorry guys, try just right clicking on the link below and 'save as'. It will download a .swf file, that you can open with IE or Firefox.

Film Veiwer Tutorial

Here's the HTML you can use to run it:

Copy the above and paste it in Notepad (Start>Programs>Accessories>Notepad) Then save it to the location where you downloaded the .swf tutorial as: AH_FV_tut.html

Afterwards open the file you just made (HTML file you copied above) and it will play the .swf tutorial for you.

Excellent! Thanks Denholm. I was really hoping it wouldnt be such a song and dance to get this out the door- so much for that idea. However your suggestion definitely makes it a much smoother ride.

No problem, I use the same script to run my Flash Navigation Menu on my website. So I figured I'd make it simple for those who don't have the .swf player.

i downloaded this camtut and followed denholms instructions to the letter..

no joy,,,,,

im the first to admit my IT illiteracy, but i really wanted to learn how to use the camera shot thingo,,, any suggestions,, other than stik my head in the sand will be gratefully appreciated,,,,,

Heya sidey-

I just tried this and it worked- open either IE or firefox, and drag the file into the browser window. IE kinda choked a little trying to block the 'harmful content', but clicking through the warnings opened it up.

Sidey, make sure after you save the code file as "AH_FV_tut.html" that you place the .swf tutorial into the same folder with the HTML file. Afterwards open the "AH_FV_tut" file and the video should play.

If it doesn't here's how we debug it:

1. Does the "AH_FV_tut" file open with Internet Explorer or any other web-browsing software? If it does, we know there were no errors in saving the HTML file. If it doesn't, then you probably saved it in-correctly. Make sure that when you save the file you particularly save it (with the period) as: AH_FV_tut.html

2. Does nothing show when you open the "AH_FV_tut" file? If nothing shows you either did not place the "AH_camtut" file into the same folder with the "AH_FV_tut" file. However if both those files are in the same location and nothing shows, you probably don't have the Flash Player.

Regardless if you have it or not, installing it again won't hurt a thing, and it will further aid us in the debugging process:

Just press the "Install Now" button.

If it still won't work even after all of this it's probably my code. It became outdated when Flash was sold from Macromedia to Adobe. So part of the code is inactive and faulty.

followed your instructions once again,,, i didnt have flash player,, but now that i do,, it still hangs with blank screen... the files are in the same folder and the HTML links to the browser but goes no further....

think im doomed

also tried the drag and drop into IE and it hung like nasty described!!

is there any other way i can get this information?

Its hard to sound appreciative when your so frustrated, but really i am i thank you for taking the time to help me with this tedious task...
