Any Rook Nation bomber squadrons?
« on: February 21, 2008, 07:25:41 AM »
Kinda curious, i hardly see rooks run bomber raids ( besides the ones i occasionally put up ). Are there any rook bomber squadrons currently? Would like to get together and plan some nightly raids for the fun of it, & for strategic reasons.

MA bombing has dwindled. You don't see it anymore unless it's 1-2 scattered NOE suicide porkers, or unless it's a giant 20-plane misison with too much alt to intercept and too many escorts to attack.

It used to be quite fun to run across bombers on the way to a target, maybe get 1 before being shot down etc...

They are far from defenseless.

However, I guess folks just got too proficient at killing 'em (read: they stopped sitting dead 6??) because bomber sorties have dwindled to almost nil.

My TOP plane kill every tour used to be B-24s. So much so I asked for a light perk for them. 90% of all bombers were B-24s, and I had LOTS of kills. 3 of my top 4-5 kill types were bombers.

That's just not the case anymore.

For MY part, I'm running more bomber missions when I'm on, but I'm not on much. I'm too busy. I'm trying to show folks bombers are cool/fun/useful, and maybe it'll kickstart more bombers in the sky. Who knows?

So to all you folks out there: FLY BOMBERS!! It's fun to fly and fun to hunt, both sides win! :aok

It's just you. I see no less bombers that I used to, and buff kills are still the top of my list by a big margin.

That's actually a bit comforting, Lusche.

It's good to see they're not totally disappearing. I'm just not seeing any outside giant missions these days. I guess I have bad timing (usually evenings for USA during the week).

It also depends on map and current base distribution. High alt bases one sector behind the frontlines tend to produce a lot of them.
If the battle is at a choking pont like it is sometimes on Compello, and the immediate next 1-2 bases are porked, they virtually disappear for a time.

I'm a buff dweeb at heart...I used to fly buffs every sortie because I sucked at dogfighting...now I'm getting better and better at fighting and all...

I'm just curious is all, i would like to find a couple squads/countrymen pilots who like to bomb, has experience with leading a formation/target assignments/holding a combat box.

I know it might sound like a long shot, but when i do raids, there's a fair share of rook pilots who know what to expect when they run raids with me, would just like to find some more pilots with similar knowledge that i have, Not saying that i know everything, but i know a fair share about a good raid.

As for bomber alt krusty, it all depends sir.  I try to keep it historical. B17G are at 22-24k with P51D or P47D escorts at 26-28k.  I also like to mix it up a little, and i like to try different variety of mission types, since i am in the top 4 pilots on rooks who run missions ( Myself, Dredger, Limb0, Drdeath ).

When I get my new computer and/or joystick working I'll jump in. I don't usually bomb at 30K...usually 15K and under because I can gun very well.

As for leading the formation...:huh . I don't really care for that type of stuff...I'm the guy that brings a set of 24s to a base, flattens it, fights my way home...

B-17 *max* alt was ~23k, but most were well well well below this, averaging 17k or lower.

Keep in mind, MANY bombers in WW2 bombed from about 10k-15k.

Even with giant US bomer missions, only the topmost boxes might push that high, the rest dropping significantly lower, and the lower boxes even lower still.

Flying B-17s at 22-24k in AH is a cop-out for avoiding conflict, but hey, go ahead if ya like.

Just don't bail or pull the plug if I bother coming up to show you some action, like a few folks have...

All Rook pilots are buff drivers since I rarely first see any of them below 20K.

Thats funny because were always looking up saying the same thing about Bish and Nits.

I'll eventually go back to spending at least 1/2 my time in bombers but right now I just have to get the other vehicles ironed out. Most of all fighters. Theres no substitute for being able to fight in every vehicle.

Strategic bombing in the game is just about dead. At least in the MAs. And thats a shame. But Im not going to fly a bomber anywheres near a base where a bunch of Dweebs can up uber rocket ships that in real life were zero threat to Allied bombers. I got better ways to spend a few hours. Such as bombing tactical targets in support of my CVs. And it seems many of the skilled bomber hunters have gotten away from it a little. I cant even look forward to getting slaughtered by Lusche since he now flys Rook. A couple other skilled hands have told me they spend much more time in the DA nowadays, that they used to spend hunting bombers.

There really is no strategic game in AH nowadays that I can see. Pity! All these bombers are wonderful airplanes.

We in the Skyknights have been rooks pretty much since AH was in diapers (or at least beta). We run buff missions every Sunday night. I'm not one of them by a long shot, but we have some of the best bombers (and best bomber gunners) in the game.
We also do a fair job at fighter escort.

AATalen,  also check to see what the DEA is doing on any given night.  If the map needs a good Lanc trip, several of us will gather to destroy a few bases with ground or air support or both.  Vox 157
