Well if you mark all the post as "read", then the only ones that have updates will be the ones with the "new" icon on them. Seems pretty easy to me. The main title icons (the HTC symbol) are lite after an update to that section is made, but I only look at a few of the mains and a couple of private sections so its pretty easy to keep track.
You are missing the whole point I'm trying to make here.
I could care less if a thread I am not interested in is marked "New".
I would like to be able to filter out all the threads I am NOT reading, at a glance,
by having their headers change shade....as do followed 'links' in all browsers
and most forum boards that haven't succumbed to the 'gotta have the latest'
craze and have glitzy bells and whistles at the cost of practicality.
Frankly, I do not read that many threads here and I just would like not to have to
scan a page of headers for the few that I am reading.
Having a 'new' icon doesn't tell me that that thread is one I have been following.
I can tell from the last message stats ( person, time/date ) when there is a new
entry in a thread I am interested in. I don't need the redundant 'new' icon.
Replace the freaking code that tracks and displays 'new' with code that shows
a link has been previously followed. It ain't rocket science and it IS of practical
use. Something todays developers seem to have lost track of.....
