And assuming from the last patch, the LA-7 probably won't be gone for a long time, even though there were more 262s in WWII that La-7s.

You would be correct if you were talking about Nikis, Chogs, Ostis, Wirbelwinds, or some other of the more obscure aircraft we have, but Im pretty sure production of the La5-7 line was at least 5,000, compared to the 1,200 262's manufactured.

Air Warrior did have a 50 cal gun in the door....while it was virtually worthless, you could get an occasional kill by a golden bee-bee  Historically accurate? http://www.boeing.com/history/mdc/skytrain.htm
I suspect that during WWII many configurations were tried and tested, even some aircrews may have poked a carbine out the door on occasion. Think about how effective the waist guns are on the buffs now...I don't think it would be a bad thing, but I digress.
