Cache not killing screensaver
« on: March 20, 2008, 09:12:16 AM »
I dunno if this is a bug or a feature request, but here goes.

The caching screen that comes when you update, change settings, or delete the cache doesn't tell the computer that it shouldn't start the screen saver. I have XP Home and use the feature to return to the Welcome screen after the saver starts to keep family and guests out of my stuff (luckily I'm the only one compy literate enough to find other people's stuff on Home on my own account :D). Unfortunately, this causes AH to minimize (canceling the cache) and crash. I dunno about you, but I don't wanna sit there jiggling the mouse or whacking space the whole time the HiRes pack is caching... *shiver*

Thanks

I did, but to waste 20 min on caching and get to ~95% to have it eat it, crash, go "DOH!", disable it, and start over is a bit of a thorn in one's side when it doesn't seem to hard to coad in, "Hey %&*^%, no ScreenSaver!" to Windoze. :D

Well yeah- it's too busy caching all ur damned textures!

I don't have a screen saver set at all- they're annoying.  It can take it a while to get "out" of screensaver mode, then once it's back in, the garbage trucks have to work overtime to clear it out of memory.  Too damned inefficent for me.   If I'm gonna be away from my monitor, I just shut it off.  Saves on the 'lectric bill, too.

Saves on the electric bill, makes your hard drive's motors cry themselves to sleep. I use FSAutoStart to deal with the RAM if I start up anything "intensive" anyway. I never shut my computer off because when I step away for long periods of time, I start up BOINC. It's a program that works with many institutions to use my computer for research in AIDS, medicines, mathematical discoveries, and climate prediction. (You can let it support anything you want) My drives last years longer, they get their research. Works for me.

It shouldn't be "too busy" to tell Windows that it's working. Other programs do it. Any way, I came here to either report a bug or supply a feature request, not fight about the practicality of it with someone not employed with HTC. I'm off to watch Firefly.

the "too damn busy" crack was a joke, dude ;)

In all seriousness, it really should tell the screensaver to stay put.

The wonders of the written word; leaves out the inflection. Misunderstood.
